Nusrat Jahan married her boyfriend, Nikhil Jain, in Turkey. The couple hosted a grand wedding reception in Kolkata, which many dignitaries attended. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, is one of the guests.
2. Marriage Or A Live-In Relationship
Nusrat comes into the limelight because of her divorce from Nikhil Jain. Nusrat and Nikhil’s marriage is not legal in the eyes of Indian law. After two years of marriage, Nusrat refused to divorce Nikhil. She said, ‘Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid. The marriage requires validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which doesn’t happen. According to the law, it is not marriage but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Nusrat said in an interview, “I didn’t want to keep talking about our separation. I want to keep my personal life to myself”.
3. Fatwa After Marriage
Nusrat married Nikhil Jain in 2019. He belongs to a Hindu family. Nikhil is a businessman. Their marriage is always in controversy from the beginning and was bashed by the Muslim hardliners. Nusrat meets Nikhil during a modeling project. Nusrat completed her look with a mangalsutra, vermillion, and bangles, which stirred the controversy. A fatwa was issued against her Hindu attire after marriage.
4. Relationship With Yash Dasgupta
Reporters surfaced last year that Nusrat was in a relationship with popular Bengali actor Yash Dasgupta. Yash is a popular face in the Bengali film industry and joined BJP before the West Bengal assembly elections were held but failed to win the seat. Nusrat and Yash have denied their relationship so far.
5. Link To Rape Accused
Nusrat’s name came into the limelight after the infamous Park Street rape case. Suzette Jordan was raped at gunpoint in a moving car in Kolkata’s Park Street area. The prime accused Kadar Khan was reportedly seeing Nusrat at that time. The two had even reportedly spent a day in a Mumbai hotel soon after the incident. She even arranged for his flight tickets to Patna even as Kolkata police were looking for him. No charges were made against her, as she denied meeting and helping khan.
6. Wearing Western Clothes To The Parliament
Nusrat sparks the controversy as she wore a western outfit on her first day of Parliament. Nusrat, along with her fellow TMC MP, and actress Mini Chakraborty, choose to wear a western outfit and click selfies outside the Parliament. Their choice of clothes attracted a lot of people and was widely discussed on social media. Nusrat and mini were badly trolled for their outfit. The two were backed by several women on social media back then who stated that what they wore to the Parliament was completely their choice and no one should have the right to dictate.
7. Death Threat For Dressing Up As Goddess Durga
Nusrat Jahan has also received a death threat on social media. She dressed up as Goddess Durga for advertisements. Nusrat posted the same on social media. As a result, her office has alerted authorities.
