The victory celebration of RCB turned tragic as the stampede took the lives of at least 11 people. What began as a night of unbridled joy and celebration in Bengaluru quickly turned into a nightmare. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched their first IPL title in 18 long years. There was a celebration all over the world. Bengaluru erupted in a frenzy of jubilation — fireworks lit the sky, chants echoed through the streets, and fans flooded public spaces to celebrate the long-awaited victory. The team arrived in Bengaluru today at 1:15 PM and was welcomed by Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. From there, the team left for Vidhana Soudha to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Stampede Outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) wanted to felicitate the players and the team management for their victory. But the celebrations took a devastating turn when overcrowding outside M Chinnaswamy stadium led to stampedes, leaving at least 11 people feared dead and many others injured.

The police also had to resort to a lathi charge when fans started swarming inside the stadium. Fans even tried to scale the stadium’s compound wall. One man broke his leg after he fell while attempting to climb the wall.

Since Tuesday night, police have said they have been keeping the throngs that were celebrating under control. Forces have been working to control them and make sure no unfortunate events occur overnight. Addressing security concerns, the Karnataka government had previously called off the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. DK Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, said,

“I apologise for the overcrowding. We arranged more than 5,000 personnel. This is a young, vibrant crowd, we can’t use a lathi on them.

I’ve talked to everyone, including the Police Commissioner. Later, I’ll visit the hospital as well. I don’t want to bother the medical professionals who are treating the patients. The precise number is yet unknown. We urge everyone to maintain their composure. We cut the show short. The show was over in ten minutes. We’re working to restore normalcy. Lakhs of people came.”

As the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) held a special celebration for the RCB team at the stadium, police employed limited force to manage the crowd and bring the situation under control. As fans flocked to the felicitation location, something equivalent to a stampede developed, according to witnesses. Images showed cops transporting the injured and unconscious to local hospitals in ambulances. The Karnataka government was criticized by Union Minister Prahlad Joshi for its inadequate planning and mishandling of the gathering.

Lack Of Knowledge Among Officials

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal reiterated that the tragedy outside was unknown to those inside. He expressed his sympathies and said the tragedy was really unfortunate. “What happened outside was unknown to the officials within. Sincere condolences,” he said. The RCB authorities told Mr. Dhumal that as soon as they learned of the regrettable incident, they immediately ceased their festivities. “RCB officials assured me that they will wind up the celebrations now,” he said. This incident calls into question crowd control techniques and event management at massive gatherings.

Who is responsible for the loss of innocent lives? As of now, no one has taken the responsibility. The celebration turned nightmare for many families as they lost their family members.
