Prime Minister Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning to see the situation as the city recovers from the tragic accident of the Air India aircraft headed for London. He went to the city’s Civil Hospital, which was admitting injured people, and the location of the plane crash, close to the airport.
According to officials, the Prime Minister drove directly to the collision site in the Meghani Nagar district after landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was with him.

Following a thorough site inspection, he visited the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which is located near the crash scene, and asked how the injured patients were doing while they were being treated.
The airline reported that the only survivor of the disaster is an Indian-origin Britisher, who is receiving medical attention at a hospital. Ramesh Viswashkumar, the only survivor, was seated in seat 11A, close to an emergency escape.
“Om Shanti,” says Prime Minister Modi.
Prime Minister Modi, who served as Gujarat Chief Minister for 12 years, earlier said he was “stunned” by the tragedy. “It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. I have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected,” he said on X on Thursday.
In order to examine the situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu visited the location on Thursday. According to Mr. Kinjarapu, the Center has established a high-level committee to look into the crash.

Shortly after taking off on Thursday afternoon, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI171) crashed into a complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar region. The Prime Minister spent around 20 minutes examining the scene.
The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the families who have lost a loved one. In addition to knowing that the gap left behind will be felt for years to come, we also understand how they feel. In another message, he said, “Om Shanti.”
He spoke with the doctors and visited the hospital’s C7 ward, where 25 injured patients are undergoing treatment. The Prime Minister visited the hospital for around ten minutes. PM Modi assured that every possible step is being taken to support the victims’ families and to uncover the reasons behind the heartbreaking incident.
Air India flight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick, crashed, reportedly carrying 242 passengers on board, including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew members.
According to reports, the aircraft hit residential areas close to BJ Medical College. The collision happened at approximately 1:38 p.m.
According to DGCA, the aircraft sent out a Mayday call shortly after takeoff, signifying a grave emergency.

Vijay Rupani, former Gujarat Chief Minister (BJP), was among the passengers on board the ill-fated Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
A woman passenger, Bhoomi Chauhan, who was set to travel to London in the Air India Flight AI171 that crashed in Ahmedabad, expressed gratitude for her narrow escape as she missed the flight by ten minutes due to being stuck in huge traffic.
Sadly, families, survivors, and a whole country are forever scarred by the loss of Air India Flight AI171. As rescue teams continue their work and investigators dig deeper into what went wrong, India mourns the loss of 241 souls who never made it to their destination.
