Bhoomi Chauhan, a woman who missed her Ahmedabad-London flight and was supposed to be on Air India Flight AI171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, almost escaped death after missing the flight by just 10 minutes because of heavy traffic. She said that she is completely “devastated” after hearing the news of the plane crash. She said,
“I am completely devastated after hearing about the loss (of lives). My body is literally shivering. My mind is totally blank now after hearing all that has happened.”
When asked about her first reaction to the plane crash, Bhoomi Chauhan expressed that she felt “fortunate” and believed it was the divine intervention of God that helped her escape the tragedy.

Bhoomi Chauhan said she left for the airport at roughly 1:30 pm after missing the flight, which took off around 1:38 pm and crashed in Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar area. “My mind is totally blank. I am thankful to God, My Ganpati Bappa saved me.”
Bhoomi Chauhan mentioned that her husband lives in London and that she traveled to India from there for a vacation after a two-year gap.
She was supposed to fly back to London by herself. Bhoomi Chauhan stated that the flight was on schedule, but she couldn’t arrive in time to catch it, so she had to go back home. Reflecting on the ten-minute delay that ultimately saved her life, she said, “Just because of those 10 minutes, I could not board the flight. I don’t know how to explain this.”

It has been reported that the crash occurred in Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad. The aircraft fell on top of a doctor’s hostel building in a residential area.
The Boeing 787-8 was carrying 242 passengers, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 1 Canadian national, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 11 of them were children as well.
The first report stated that the incident occurred at 1:40 pm, after the jet had taken off at 1:38 pm. The plane was in the air at around 621 feet when it fell, and a deadly accident happened.
Black smoke was observed rapidly rushing into the sky in thick clouds. Out of 242 onboard, 241 people are declared dead, including Dr. Vijay Rupani, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat. Surprisingly, Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, a 40-year-old Indian origin Briton, survived the disaster.
242 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 cabin crew members were on board the Air India aircraft as it flew to London Gatwick.
Government Response To This Tragic Accident
While Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the disaster as “heartbreaking beyond words,” Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called it “devastating.”
Emergency response teams are on the scene, and Air India chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran called the incident a “tragic accident” and a “devastating event.” The Indian aviation tragedy on Thursday left King Charles III “desperately shocked,” and he sent “prayers and deepest possible sympathies” to the families of those impacted.
The monarch described the events in Ahmedabad this morning as a “heartbreaking and traumatic time” and posted on Instagram, “My wife and I have been desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning.” Fire departments, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles are on the ground and are working nonstop to keep the situation under control.
