An Air Hostess was caught in Jet Airways’ Hong Kong flight with 4.80 million US Dollars. After the Monday night action, DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) arrested the mastermind of this racket Amit Malhotra from Delhi on Tuesday. According to DRI officials, Malhotra has sent money to several millionaires in Delhi in a similar way in the span of a year. Later it was brought illegally to India by buying gold. Malhotra befriended one of the Air Hostesses during the journey.
Suspicion Regarding Money Being Carried
According to the news agency, the DRI said in the statement that on Monday night, the flight to Hong Kong received a huge amount of foreign currency information. The team searched for Jet Airways flight at IGI Airport. During this time, the air hostess, Devashi Kulshreshtha was caught with 480, 200 US Dollars. Their value in Indian currency is 3.21 million rupees. The money was wrapped in aluminum foil and was kept among food packets.
The Mastermind Of Smuggling
DRI officers told that Amit Malhotra is the mastermind of smuggling of foreign currency. He befriended the crew members in the flight and indulged them in commissioning in the racket. Malhotra used to take money from Delhi’s millionaires and send them abroad via air hostess. Later this amount is bought in foreign gold, and then this gold was illegally brought to India.
In Exchange For 50% Shares
Six months ago, Malhotra became friends with one of the air hostesses in the flight. The DRI officer told that Malhotra has been sending the currency abroad for a year. Some of Jet Airways’ crew was suspected to be involved in the racket. The officials are still trying to find the millionaires whose money was sent abroad. The accused air hostess said in the interrogation that she works with agent Amit Malhotra, who lives in Vivek Vihar area in Delhi. In exchange for 50% of the shares, the currency was taken in other countries. After the revelations of air hostess joining the Hawala racket, Jet Airways can take action against her.
