Indian MonkTarun Sagar breathed his last at 3:00 a.m at Radhapuri Jain temple in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar area Saturday morning.

Yes. It is very sad news.

He was suffering from jaundice but had stopped taking medicines for the past few days. He was brought to Radhapuri Jain Temple where he opted for ‘Santhara’ or ‘Sallekhana’, the Jain ritual of fast unto death.

Born on June 26, 1967, Tarun Sagar was greatly respected by various politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Tarun Sagar lectures are termed Kadve Pravachan (bitter discourses). He had a massive following in Jain community. His audience often included a majority of non-Jains and his discourses often address family or society issues.

His real name was Pawan Kumar Jain. He got the title of krantikari (revolutionary) at a religious gathering in Karnataka, and Rashtra Sant in 2003 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Several politicians expressed their grief on his death.

1. Will Always Remember Him  For His Compassion, Says PM Modi

2. He Is My Inspiration, Says Rajnath Singh

3. It Is My Personal Loss, Says Minister Suresh Prabhu

4. He Inspired Thousands To Follow The Path Of Truth, Says BJP Maheish Girri

5. His Teachings And Ideals Will Always Inspire Humanity, Says Arvind Kejriwal

6. He Will Always Be Remembered For His Teachings & Contribution To The Society, Says Poonam Mahajan

7. He Was A Revolutionary Saint In The Jain Community, Says BJP Sudhanshu Mittal

When asked about his massive fan following, he had once told,

” I am not acceptable everywhere. But I believe there are a large number of people who have affection for me. In my sermons, I don’t talk about any religion, any community, I talk only about life and everyone loves to live. That is the reason people live me. These days, people have a scarcity of two elements: the smile on face and happiness in life. I speak in both these elements and people not only listen to it but also choose it.”

He had also hit out against ‘fake babas’ and said on Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s arrest,

“ I had said that rapist babas are dangerous than Bin Laden…they are murdering religious beliefs… Akhada has released list of 14 fake babas…I say there are not 14 but 14000 fake babas…after exploring only we can get to know what kind of mischiefs are going on in the name of religion. There is no code of conduct for these babas and that is why such accidents are happening.”

He had hit headlines in 2016 when he had been invited to the deliver a lecture at the Haryana Assembly. Tarun Sagar’s last rites will be performed at Tarunsagaram, Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh later on Saturday.

It is a great loss to all of us but I am sure that his teachings will remain alive in all of our heart.
