Satyendar Jain Receives Six-Week Bail

Satyendra Jain was held in Tihar Jail after being taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in May of this year for money laundering. On May 25, after passing out in the prison bathroom, Jain was taken to the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital’s intensive care unit. Due to his poor health, the court has, in the meantime, granted temporary release for a period of six weeks. This explains why, a year after his health began to improve, he went straight from the hospital to his house.

“This order is confined only to the extent of grant of bail on medical grounds…We are inclined to consider the grant of interim bail considering the report of the G B Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education…of six weeks for treatment to the petitioner in a private hospital of his choice,” Justices J K Maheshwari and P S Narasimha ordered.

The court directed, “shall not influence and meet with any of the witnesses…not leave the area of NCT without the leave of the court…”. Additionally, the court requested that he present the records of his medical care. The bench also said, “shall not go in any press or media to make any statement on any issue.”

The SC stated that the order would be in effect until July 11.
