The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is currently using this frequency for TV transmitters around the country.
Last year, Prasar Bharati, a public service broadcaster, formed a partnership with IIT Kanpur to explore the technology’s practicality.
While the D2M technology is still in its early stages, Prasar Bharati’s CEO has stated that bringing major players such as mobile carriers on board will be the “greatest difficulty” in implementing D2M on a large scale. According to Apurva Chandra, Secretary of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, a broad rollout of the technology will necessitate infrastructural upgrades as well as legislative reforms.
