Factually, the case is that this beauty Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR was sold for approximately $143 million (₹ 1,100 crores), not even close to any other car deal pay-out. The race winner W 106R Grand Prix based 300 SLR is a masterpiece that was built in 1955 and was sold by the Canadian classic car auction company RM Sotheby’s on May 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Stuttgart stadium. Post-auction all the proceedings were moved to the newly established ‘Mercedes-Benz fund’ with a motive to provide educational and research scholarships for young people in the areas of environmental science and decarbonization.
“We are proud that we can contribute with our historical collection to this initiative connecting the past with the future of engineering and decarbonization technology,” said Mr. Marcus Breitschwerdt the Head of Mercedes-Benz Heritage. He further added that the private buyer has agreed that the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé will remain accessible for public display on special occasions, while the second original 300 SLR Coupé remains in company ownership and will continue to be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
