16. Cube Houses, Rotterdam, Netherlands

In order to encourage interaction between the public (the downstairs building) and the private (the upstairs cube), this cube house was built. Even though it functions as a pedestrian bridge, the cubes do have tenants.

17. Resident Church XL, Netherlands

In 2009, this was converted into a residence. Saint Jakobus Church which dates back to 1870 ceased to function as a church in 1991 and was later used as a showroom for events and furniture displays. In 2007, Zecc Architects came with a proposal. They wanted to transform the church into a residence and to bring this beautiful historical monument back to life.

18. Hang Nga Guesthouse, Da Lat, Vietnam

This concrete-treehouse drew inspiration from Gaudi’s peculiar designs. The guesthouse features ladders, tunnels,  and hollowed-out rooms which are available for tours and night stays.

19. Hotel Costa Verde, Costa Rica

It’s one of the craziest and unusual hotels in the world. The airframe was salvaged and transported to this site piece by piece. It was then reassembled on a 50-foot pedestal at the edge of the National Park. You can see amazing views of the jungle.

20. The Tree Hotel, Sweden

If you want to reach the entrance, you need to traverse a rope bridge connected to the next tree. Its a cube-shaped volume wrapped around the trunk of a tall tree. The hotel exterior is clad in mirrored glass that reflects the sky and the trees. The interior is made of plywood and offers 360 degrees of the landscape. It has a living area with a bedroom, a roof terrace, and a small bathroom.

21. House NA, Tokyo, Japan

Designed by Sou Fujimoto Architects using 21 individual floor plates placed at various heights, this house is transparent. The house owners want to experience living as nomads in their own home and were inspired by the idea of living in a tree.
