The second edition of WPL will be held in February-March 2024. The first edition was a huge success. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League. Now, the preparation of the second edition has already started. The auction is set to take place on December 9 in Mumbai.
165 Women Players Registered For The Auction
This time, a total of 165 players will go under the hammer in the upcoming WPL auction. Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, West Indies Deandra Dottin, and South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail are among the most prominent names. A total of 165 players go under the hammer for the second WPL auction in Mumbai.
104 Players From India Registered For WPL 2024
This time, the notable names in the auction from India will be Veda Krishnamurthy, S Meghana, Meghan Singh, and Devika Vaidya. There are 104 players from India, and 61 are overseas players. A maximum of 30 players, including nine overseas players, can get the WPL contract. Of 61 overseas players, 15 players are from associated nations, such as Thailand’s Natthakan Chatham and USA’s Tara Norris.
Two Players Registered At Rs 50 Lakh Base Price
Deandra Dottin and Kim Garth are the only players who have registered themselves under the highest base price of INR 50 lakh for the forthcoming WPL auction. The second highest base price is INR 40 lakhs. There are 4 players registered under this category. They are Annabelle Sutherland and Georgia Wareham from Australia, Shabnim Ismail from South Africa, and Amy Jones from England. Chamari Athapaththu from Sri Lanka, who had a dream run in the Women’s Big Bash League, has registered herself at the base price of INR 30 lakh. All these players can potentially get significant bids during the WPL 2024 auction.
Purse Remaining Of All Franchise For WPL 2024
Gujarat Giants holds the flexibility to make strategic choices in the upcoming auction with a sustainable amount of Rs 5.95 crore. They have to fill 10 slots. UP Warriors has Rs 4 crore and needs to fill 5 slots with 1 overseas. Royal Challengers Bangalore has left with Rs 3.35 crore. They have to fill 7 slots with 3 overseas. Delhi Capitals, last year’s runner-up, is left with a remaining amount of Rs 2.25 crore and has to fill 3 slots with 1 overseas. Mumbai Indians, who won the inaugural edition, has Rs 2.1 crore with 5 slots to fill, including 1 overseas.
