There will be a total of 74 matches including playoffs and final. Each team will play 14 games, (7 home and 7 away). Though this year, the formula will not be relevant as all the matches will be held in Mumbai and Pune. Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each. Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium Pune will host 15 matches each. All the teams will play 4 matches each in Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium and 3 matches each in Brabourne Stadium and MCA International stadium. The venue for the playoffs and finals is yet to be decided.

The IPL confirmed that this year the tournament will be played between March 26 and May 29. It will start 10 days after India’s home Test series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to end. The teams are already shaped up after the auction and it looks like this year will not have any team as a favorite tag. The mega auction has divided the players of the franchise into a big set of pools. Hardik Pandya will be leading Gujarat Titans and KL Rahul is captaining Lucknow Super Giants.
