The controversy surrounding Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal and singer Daler Mehndi has taken a fresh turn. After reports claimed that the minister had apologised to the singer following their public confrontation, Uniyal has now denied the claims. He has questioned why he should apologise and maintained that he has done nothing wrong.
Speaking to Satya Vani, the minister addressed the reports directly. His remarks have once again brought the dispute into the spotlight, particularly after Mika Singh’s team publicly acknowledged an alleged apology over a phone call.
Subodh Uniyal Denies Apologising To Daler Mehndi
When asked whether he had apologised to Daler Mehndi, Uniyal rejected the reports. “Mera maafi maangne ka prashn hi nahi hai (There is no question of me apologising),” he said. The minister went on to question whether he had committed any wrongdoing that required him to apologise. “Ye batao, maine koi apradh kiya hai jo maafi maangu? (Tell me, have I committed any crime that I should apologise?),” he added.
Uniyal also criticised the singer’s decision to perform despite allegedly being unwell. He argued that Mehndi should either have stayed away from the event or informed the audience about his health. “Agar tabiyat kharab thi toh nahi aana chahiye tha. Agar aaye bhi the, toh janta ko bata dete ki tabiyat kharab hai (If he was unwell, he should not have come. Even if he did come, he should have informed the audience that he was unwell),” the minister said.
Questioning responsibility for the incident, Uniyal further remarked, “Main kehta hoon, apradhi kaun hai? (I ask, who is the one at fault?)”. He maintained that the person responsible for the mistake should apologise.
Why Did Reports Claim That Uniyal Had Apologised?
My heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri @pushkardhami ji, for your kind words and for taking the time to speak with me and my brother. 🙏❤️

The minister’s latest comments come after reports suggested that he had expressed regret to Daler Mehndi during a telephone conversation. A statement from Mika Singh’s team, quoted by IANS, had acknowledged the reported apology and stressed the importance of respecting artists.
“We appreciate that Subodh Uniyal ji has apologised to Daler Mehndi paaji over a telephonic conversation regarding the unfortunate incident. Respecting artists and their dignity is extremely important. Daler paaji is a senior artist who has contributed immensely to the music industry, and every artist deserves to be treated with respect (sic),” the statement read.
Mika also told IANS that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had invited both brothers to the state. During a press conference, Mika spoke about his conversation with Dhami and praised the Chief Minister’s handling of the controversy. He said Dhami had communicated with both brothers politely and humbly.
“Just this morning, I spoke with my elder brother, dear friend, and someone I hold in high regard, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami. Whenever I visit Dehradun, he meets me with great warmth and is extremely down-to-earth. The way he communicated with Daler Paaji and me was very polite and humble. He offered an apology on behalf of the Minister, and though I told him it wasn’t necessary since he made no mistake.” However, Uniyal’s latest remarks directly contradict the reports that he personally apologised to the singer.
What Happened Between Subodh Uniyal And Daler Mehndi?
At the Kunjapuri Mela in Narendranagar, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal stopped Daler Mehndi’s live show midway, accusing him on stage of performing after drinking and saying he couldn’t even speak properly. Daler Mehndi hasn’t responded, and the allegation hasn’t been independently confirmed.
But the point stands. Kunjapuri is a Navratri mela at one of Garhwal’s most revered Shakti peeths. Organisers spend lakhs to bring big names, and families travel for hours to watch them.
The least they deserve is a singer who turns up prepared, sober and ready to give his best. The bigger the star, the bigger the responsibility.— Kumaon Jagran (@KumaonJagran) October 19, 2026
The controversy began during Daler Mehndi’s performance at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Uttarakhand during Navratri. The performance was interrupted by Uniyal, who allegedly accused the singer of being under the influence of alcohol and lip-syncing. The confrontation soon attracted widespread attention, with questions being raised about the treatment of artists at public events.
Mika Singh subsequently defended his elder brother and emphasised that artists deserve dignity and respect. The Chief Minister also became involved in the matter, with Mika acknowledging his efforts to address the dispute.
Conclusion
Subodh Uniyal’s latest comments have added another twist to the Daler Mehndi controversy. While Mika Singh’s team previously welcomed what it described as an apology over the phone, the minister has now denied apologising and questioned why he should do so. His remarks leave the dispute over responsibility for the incident unresolved.
