Jock Zonfrillo’s loved ones, who described themselves as being ‘devastated’ following his demise on Sunday, acknowledged the Scottish-Australian chef’s passing. At the age of 46, Jock Zonfrillo passed away. He was an expert on MasterChef Australia and a chef and author.

His family confirmed his passing on Monday and described him as “our irreplaceable husband, father, brother, son, and friend,” who passed away in Melbourne on Sunday.

The reason for his passing was not disclosed. A spokeswoman for Victoria Police said that there was no indication of a suspicious nature in the death. The coroner will receive a report.

The new season of MasterChef Australia was scheduled to debut on Monday night. However, Network 10 has announced that it won’t broadcast this week.

We are heartbroken to announce that Jock passed away yesterday; his family said as much in a statement. “With completely shattered hearts and without knowing how we can possibly move through life without him,” the statement read.

“So many words can describe him so that many stories can be told, but at this time, we’re too overwhelmed to put them into words. So for those who crossed his path, became his mate, or were lucky enough to be his family, keep this proud Scot in your hearts when you have your next whisky.”

The forthcoming season of MasterChef Australia featured celebrity chef Jamie Oliver as a guest, and he said on Instagram that he was “in total shock.”

Reynold Poernomo expressed his disbelief at the news while Reynold Sharrad, Sarah Tiong, Depinder Chhibber, Minoli De Silva, and other past MasterChef competitors paid respect to the chef on social media.

On Zonfrillo’s Instagram, he posted, “Rest in peace, chef, my heart and condolences to loved ones.”

Dan Hong, Rosheen Kaul, and Colin Fassnidge, all chefs, also expressed their sorrow.

Hong remarked, “This is devastating,” and Pat Nourse, a veteran food reviewer, called Zonfrillo’s passing “incredibly sad news.”

“We’re the poorer for his passing. Truly heartbreaking,” he captioned a photo on Instagram.

In a statement, Endemol Shine Australia, which produces MasterChef Australia and Network 10, stated that they were “deeply shocked and saddened” by Barry Zonfrillo’s untimely passing.

Zonfrillo was raised in Glasgow in 1976. At the tender age of 13, he initially started working as a washer in kitchens. One of the hotel’s youngest-ever trainees, he dropped out of school at age 15 and consequently began working there. He admitted in his 2021 autobiography Last Shot that he was homeless. Furthermore, he was hooked on heroin when he started working for renowned Marco Pierre White at the age of 17. Then at the age of 22, he was named head chef of the Tresanton Hotel in Cornwall.

He was sacked in 2002 after setting fire to an apprentice’s trousers for performing sluggishly. Zonfrillo was sued by Martin Krammer, who in 2007 was awarded compensation of $75,000. A number of eateries, including Restaurant Orana, Street ADL, Bistro Blackwood, and Nonna Mallozzi, were subsequently opened by him in Adelaide. Gourmet Traveller magazine selected Restaurant Orana Australia’s restaurant of the year in 2018; the Good Food Guide did the same the following year. He started judging MasterChef Australia in 2019.

In the sections regarding Zonfrillo’s stay in London in the 1990s. Zonfrillo asserted that this was the account of his life and refuted any claims to the contrary. Lauren Fried, his third wife, and his four children are his only survivors.
