A person who commits terrible mistakes may escape from the law but will never escape from God. Today generation won’t believe this. And only a few people believe in the concept of Sanatana Dharma. Every creature lives happily and peacefully if an administrator is a dharmic person.

But if a person who sits on the throne of President or PM or CM is an adharmic person, then their ruling hurts everyone as the punishment comes in the form of natural disasters.

I know many of you won’t believe this and I definitely don’t get astonished with it. 200 years of slavery, and then corrupted ruling after independence, many Indians lost their true origin. It feels so bad to me when my fellow Indians question about the existence of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Most of the Indians are in such a position that they believe when a foreigner say that your Ramayana and Mahabharata is true.

So, in this scenario, people generally don’t believe in a dharmic ruling as this generation didn’t see that yet. And it looks weird to many people not just to Indians. The fact is that today more than Indians; westerners are really showing interest in Indian culture and tradition. And yes they are following it.

Whether you believe or not, it is not in your hands to make the sun to shine every morning, it is not in your hands to make stars shine in the night, it is not in your hands to rain when farmer need it, it is not in your hands to take birth to the desired parents and similarly death.

There is one supreme power ruling this universe and it knows very well what to do and at what time. Natural disasters or calamities won’t happen just like that. Be it in India or in any other country. There is a reason for everything. Some people find it and some people will never try to know that.

Earthquakes, typhoons, and tsunamis etc natural disasters are very horrific that sometimes the place takes several years to come back to its original state. Some natural disasters are so mysterious that it can’t be described with science.

One such is Lake Nyos mysterious natural disaster that took away the lives of more than 1,700 people and over 3, 500 livestock animals and it is also known as Deadliest lake in the world.

Located in Cameroon’s Northwest Region, Lake Nyos experienced one of the strangest natural disasters in history on August 21, 1986.

People of Cameroon, who live along the shores of Lake Nyos believes that an evil spirit which emerged from the lake killed all those who lived near it.  However, people who believe in science won’t believe this.

So this is what scientific reports said.

According to scientific reports, about 400 years ago, Lake Nyos was formed in a volcanic crater. Crater lakes normally contain high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) formed by the volcanic activity happening miles beneath them. Under normal circumstances, this gas is released over time as the lake turns over.

But Wait, This Is Not How It Worked.

Instead of releasing the gas, the lake was storing it, dissolving the CO2 in the calm waters. On a fateful night, something triggered a commotion in the lake and it exploded like a bomb.

It sent a fountain of water over 300 feet into the air creating a mini-tsunami. Although the water was lethal, more fatal was the gas.

Just in 20 seconds, some 1.2 cubic kilometers of carbon dioxide was released into the atmosphere. As oxygen was squeezed out of the affected areas, people and animals perished in a matter of minutes.

Nyos, Kam, Cha, and Subum villages were wiped out. In a nearby village, out of 800 people, only six survived. Many people died in their sleep without ever knowing what hit them.

What Triggered The Lake?

It is not known even today what the prompt was- landslide, small volcanic eruption, or small cold rain falling on an edge of the lake. Scientists are still debating the cause of the sudden eruption.

Joseph Nkwain, who woke up 3 hours after the cloud hit, recounted the experience,

“I could not speak. I became unconscious. I could not open my mouth because then I smelled something terrible. I heard my daughter snoring in a terrible way, very abnormal. When crossing to my daughter’s bed. I collapsed and fell. My arms had some wounds, I didn’t really know how I got those wounds. I wanted to speak, my breath would not come out. My daughter was already dead.”

Is The Lake Dangerous Today?

Yes, it is. The people and animals living around the Lake Nyos are still not safe.

George Kling, an ecologist at the University of Michigan said, “It was one of the most baffling disasters scientists have ever investigated. Lakes just don’t rise up and wipe out thousands of people.”

In a bid to avert future explosions, an electronic pump that would simulate an eruption was sunk in an effort to degas the lake in 2001. A pipe has been installed in Lake Nyos that runs vertically between the lake bottom and the surface. The pipe allows the gas to escape at a regular rate. Due to the pressurized nature of the gas, the water comes out of the vent in a rather lovely CO2- a powered jet of water.
