1.82KViews

While presenting the Union Budget 2025-26, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted middle-class growth, an industry support platform, and economic growth. Cust duties will shift, making the goods cheaper yet more expensive than the others.

The budget 2025-26 proposes much-needed tax reforms, infra investments, and sectoral reforms toward long-term growth. Some will benefit from new lower customs duty prices for products that have thus far been deemed expensive. These changes will likely bring domestic manufacturing front and center as consumption rises along with the dream of a new, more economically resilient India.

Tax Reforms

Income Tax Slab Income Tax Rate
0-4 Lakh NIL
4-8 Lakh 5%
8-12 Lakh 10%
12-16 Lakh 15%
16-20 Lakh 20%
20-24 Lakh 25%
Above 24 Lakh 30%

The government has declared massive tax sops for the individual sector as well as the corporate sector. According to the new tax, no income tax will be applicable for income up to ₹12 lakh, with an extended limit up to ₹12.75 lakh for salaried taxpayers. Lower tax slabs have been implemented with new income brackets, and the process of returning taxes has also become simple, with time limits extended for the updated returns.

Infrastructure And Capital Expenditure

To improve the economic scenario, the capital expenditure has been increased to ₹11.2 lakh crore compared to last year’s budget, which was ₹11.1 lakh crore. Infrastructure development accounts for a massive portion of these investments, with major thrusts on roads, railways, and urban infrastructure. The new initiative in this regard is the ₹1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund for urban development, while railways have received continued financial support.

The GDP growth rate for the current financial year is expected to slow to 6.4%, its lowest in four years. The Economic Survey 2024-25 projects a 6.3%-6.8% growth range for FY26, highlighting the need for land, labor, and manufacturing reforms to boost economic momentum.

Budget 2025-26 balances tax relief for the middle class, industry incentives, and fiscal stability. While key products will become cheaper to promote domestic industries and sustainability, others will see price hikes to encourage self-reliance. With a focus on infrastructure, capital expenditure, and economic reforms, the budget aims to position India for long-term growth while addressing short-term challenges in inflation and job creation.
