The 33-year-old Anand Piramal who is the son of billionaire businessman Ajay Piramal of Piramal Enterprises currently holds the position of Executive Director of the Piramal Group.
The Bollywood Style Proposal
Anand and Isha have been long-time friends and both their families share a strong bond of friendship for over four decades. The duo got engaged during a family holiday in Mahabaleshwar. Where, Anand proposed to his girlfriend Isha.
After Anand proposed Isha, the couple celebrated the occasion with a lunch. And they were joined by their parents – Nita and Mukesh Ambani and Swati. And Ajay Piramal, Isha’s brothers Akash and Anant. Followed by her grandmother Kokilaben Ambani, and other family members.
Before joining his father Ajay Piramal’s business, Anand founded a start-up called Piramal eSwasthya. It is a rural healthcare initiative that treats 40,000 patients a day. He is actively involved in its strategic and development affairs.
Hurun Real Estate Unicorn of the Year
Anand holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. And he also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has been the youngest President of the Indian Merchant Chamber – Youth Wing.
In 2015, Anand raised $434 million from Goldman Sachs and Warburg Pincus for the growth of the company. This was one of the largest private equity investments in real estate in the country. Anand was awarded the Hurun Real Estate Unicorn of the Year 2017 by Hurun India. And Young Business Leader award by Hello! magazine.
After launching his health care project, Anand started off with his second venture. It is Piramal Realty, a start-up that dabbles in real estate. Both are now a part of $4 billion company, Parimal Enterprises which is run by the family itself.
Two Families Joining Hands
Anand recently made news when he thanked his would-be father-in-law Mukesh Ambani for pushing him to become an entrepreneur. Anand revealed that he had taken Mukesh’s advice when he was confused between joining consultation or banking.
The 33-year-old said, “I asked him, whether I should get into consulting or banking? He told me, ‘Being a consultant is like watching cricket or commentating about cricket while being an entrepreneur is like playing cricket. You can’t learn how to play cricket by commentating. If you want to do something, be an entrepreneur in the long term and start now’.”
The 26-year-old Isha Ambani is on the Boards of Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and South Asian Studies from Yale University and is currently pursuing Master in Business Administration course School of Business, Stanford and is expected to complete her course by June.
Earlier this year, Mukesh Ambani’s son Akash Ambani got engaged to Shloka Mehta, who is the daughter of diamantaire Russell Mehta. He heads Rosy Blue Diamonds, one of the country’s leading diamond companies.
