The Air India plane that was a part of this tragic accident was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, having registration VT-ANB. The twin-aisle jet was not a new one in service, as Air India had been supplied with the twin-aisle jet in 2014.

The area of Ahmedabad identified as Meghani Nagar has been said to be the crash site. The plane crashed in a place that is reportedly a residential area on top of a doctor’s hostel building. This increases the seriousness of the situation because residential areas are usually more populated.
The initial response suggests that the crash occurred in the Meghani Nagar area, not far from Ahmedabad airport. The plane is believed to have crashed into the perimeter wall of the airport.
