When you think of First AC train travel, you imagine luxury, comfort, and a touch of grace. However, a recent viral video has turned that image upside down, with passengers apparently packing bedsheets and towels into their luggage before departing the coach. The event has prompted uproar online, highlighting concerns about etiquette, accountability, and the mindset of visitors who can purchase India’s most expensive train tickets while engaging in petty theft.

Viral Video Of Passengers Stealing Bedsheets

A viral video has sparked significant outrage on social media, showing a family openly attempting to steal bedsheets and towels from the first AC coach of the Purushottam Express, a train that connects Puri to Delhi. The frightening video shows the family — a lady and two men — reluctantly returning the items after being confronted by railway workers at the station.

According to reports, Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) observed the family carrying several sets of bedsheets and towels intended for passenger use. When confronted on the scene, the attendants urged them to return the items or pay a ₹780 fine.

“Traveling in the first AC of the Purushottam Express is a source of pride, but there are some who don’t hesitate to steal and take home the bedsheets provided for extra comfort while traveling.”

The TTE intervened, warning that the situation could develop under the Railways Act. Sharing the video online, a user wrote, “Traveling in the first AC of the Purushottam Express is a source of pride. However, there are some who do not hesitate to steal and take home the bedsheets provided for extra comfort while traveling.”

Public Calls Theft “Shameless,” Demand Strict Action

The footage sparked anger online, with users calling the act “disgusting” and “shameless.” Many others requested harsh penalties, including lifetime bans on railway travel for the culprits. One user asked, “How low can people stoop? These are public resources intended for comfort, not personal gain.”

Another stated, “Traveling in first class is a luxury, but stealing bedsheets demonstrates a lack of respect and honesty. Let us respect public resources and maintain decorum.”

A third added, “Even if they returned them, they should be fined for their unlawful actions. Until they are penalized, this behavior will persist. These things cause us humiliation both nationally and globally.”

Response From Railway Seva

The Railway Seva official account reacted in the comments, stating that the issue had been escalated: “For necessary action, escalated to the concerned official.”

Indian Railways supplies bedsheets, blankets, and towels to passengers in sleeper and air-conditioned classes on long-distance trains to guarantee a comfortable journey. These items are frequently maintained by railway employees, and passengers are asked to return them at the end of their journey. Misuse or theft of these public resources is a violation of railway regulations.
