The entertainment industry was shocked this week when the body of Pakistani actor Humaira Asghar Ali was discovered in her Karachi apartment. What started as a routine complaint about unpaid rent has turned into a heartbreaking mystery. This raises serious questions about social isolation and the circumstances that led to the tragic situation going unnoticed for so long.
Body Found After Landlord’s Complaint

The tragic discovery came to light when Humaira’s landlord filed a complaint about unpaid rent. Police officers who entered the apartment made the grim discovery of her body, officially described as being in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Karachi police surgeon, Dr. Summaiya Syed, who conducted the post-mortem examination, confirmed the decomposed state of the body. The condition made it impossible to identify the remains visually, leading authorities to conduct DNA testing for verification.
The Nine-Month Timeline Mystery
According to a recent report by Arab News, investigators believe she had died nearly nine months before her body was discovered. Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza provided crucial evidence supporting this timeline.
“As per call detail records, the last call was made in October 2024,” Raza told the publication. This phone record became a piece of evidence to determine when she was last alive.
Evidence Points To October 2024 Death

The investigation revealed that neighbours had last seen her sometime in September or October 2024. This matched other evidence collected by the police during the investigation.
Electricity, Food, And Household Items
The investigation uncovered disturbing details about the apartment’s condition. Electrical appliances had been expired for months. The jars of food were rusted and had expired six months ago, they revealed.
The water pipes in the household were dry and rusted, and one of the balconies was discovered to be crumbling. These details painted the picture that she had been absent for an extended period.
Why Was She Not Discovered Earlier?
It highlights how Humaira’s situation contributed to the delay — the only other occupied apartment did not notice any odour. When some residents returned to the building in February, the odour had already subsided, which explains why the situation went unnoticed for so long.
- Family’s Initial Response
Initially, police reported Humaira’s family had refused to claim her body; however, the situation changed when her brother, Naveed Asghar, arrived in Karachi to claim custody of the remains.
- Brother’s Explanation
Naveed provided insight into the family situation in recent years. He explained that Humaira had moved from Lahore to Karachi about seven years ago and had grown distant from the family, visiting occasionally.
- DNA Verification Process
Due to the severely decomposed state of the body, DNA testing was necessary for identification.
“We have come here and, after fulfilling all the legal requirements, we have received the report,” Naveed confirmed after the verification process.
