What Happened To Reeta Sahani?
The cruise reports that the woman has allegedly jumped from the ship. She was declared dead on Tuesday, 1 August 2023. However, the cruise was not giving adequate evidence to the family. Further, the family says that the cruise is washing their hands off the case.
The deceased’s son, Apoorva Sahani, sought the prime minister’s office and the Ministry of external affairs to help find his mother.
On the other hand, the Royal Caribbean cruise shared a video of Reeta Sahani jumping off the cruise. The cruise further said that the ship’s overboard detection system had been alerted that something had fallen from the vessel into the Singapore Strait.
The Family’s Statement
The couple’s son, Apoorv Sahani, who was not on the cruise, stated that the family is still in the dark about his mother’s disappearance. He further added that his mother couldn’t swim, and his father was made to go through an interview with the police. The interview continued for a few hours.
Apoorv told the newspaper, “We have asked to see the CCTV footage, but so far, we’ve not received anything yet for us to confirm that it was her. All we know is that the ship’s crew thinks she jumped.”
He added, “Eventually, my father was told to get down from the ship because another cruise was going to take place. But, we think she may still be on the ship, stuck somewhere.”
The Company’s Statement On Reeta Sahani Going Missing
The Spectrum of the Seas is the first Royal Caribbean cruise ship belonging to the Quantum-Ultra class. The staff working on the cruise stated that the woman jumped off the ship in the middle of the night. In a statement, Singapore’s maritime and port authority said that the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre was notified about the incident at about 7:50 am. A spokesman further said that the local authorities were immediately informed about the incident.
The company didn’t comment further. They respected the guests and their families. But, they said they were offering the family support and assistance.
