William Hardison Sr. was barricaded in his home on the 4800 block of Broad and North Mathilda streets. Residents in the area were evacuated as law enforcement tried to get Hardison out of his house.
The incident began when a constable arrived at William’s home to serve an eviction notice. Allegedly, Hardison opened fire on the constable. He was luckily able to escape unharmed. Further, Hardison barricaded himself inside his home. This led to a six-hour standoff with law enforcement. The shots continued to fire in the area just blocks away from UPMC Children’s Hospital. The bomb squad and SWAT were also on the scene. People were asked to avoid the place. The FBI also responded to the scene.

Further, the UPMC Children’s Hospital stated, “Pittsburgh Police are responding to a shooting incident approximately 1/2 mile from UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The individual is accounted for, and there is no direct threat to patients, staff, or visitors. Enhanced security is now on campus and will continue throughout the day.”
Pittsburgh Public Schools officials say Pittsburgh Montessori School and Obama Academy are on lockdown. Moreover, President Joe Biden has been briefed about the situation.
Who Was William Hardison Sr.?
The suspect, William Hardison Sr., was a 63-year-old man who lived in the Garfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Hardison had a criminal record that included charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and harassment. Moreover, he was also involved in a previous standoff with law enforcement in 2015.
Further, according to his son, William Hardison Jr., his father was a sovereign. This makes him exempt from the law. Hardison is also believed to have shot down two drones put up by law enforcement. A sheriff’s deputy also sustained a head injury after being forced to dive for cover while the suspect was shooting.
However, a Lady believed to be Hardison’s sister was spotted yelling at the reporters at the scene. She was seen saying, “He is a good man; he just lost his brother, and he was in the service.” Additionally, she asked the police for permission to go near her brother. However, she was told by the police that it was not safe for her to go near the house.
To avoid evacuation orders, the suspect opened fire on the police constable. This resulted in a problematic situation in the neighborhood. What do you think about the situation?
