1. Rumi Bagga – Manmarziyaan
This one is often regarded as one of the best performances by Taapsee Pannu. Though Manmarziyaan features some great character, it is the character of Rumi Bagga that stood out among others. The central pillar of the plot, Rumi broke numerous Bollywood stereotypes concerning female characterizations and came across a fiercely independent woman who formed her own set of rules. 2. Shabana Khan – Naam Shabana
Shabana Khan was originally a supporting character in the Akshay Kumar starrer Baby (2016). Thanks to the film’s success, the character made a great return in her own spin-off film Naam Shabana. Different from most female characters in Bollywood, Shabana is a spy who is fearless and can give anyone a tough fight on the field. Kudos to Taapsee for giving people a badass character to look up to.
3. Aarti Mohammed – Mulk
In the movie Mulk, Aarti Mohammed is the daughter-in-law of Murad Ali Mohammed (Rishi Kapoor). Aarti also happens to be a lawyer and is the one who defends Murad Ali Mohammed in the treason case. While her family had its back against the wall, she fought it out for them with exceptional courage. Arti had all the reasons to feel upset and decides to step forth and fight for the truth.
4. Minal Arora – Pink
Often considered to be Taapsee Pannu’s breakout role, Minal Arora in Pink is a free-spirited young girl who loves her freedom as a single woman in Delhi. But when an unfortunate incident threatens to derail her life along with her friends’, she refuses to suffer in silence and takes a brave stand in the court of law. Minal Arora is a character that feels incredibly real in its presentation that is possibly what connected to the audience, through Taapsee’s powerful performance.
5. Harpreet – Soorma
Soorma is a biopic film based on the real-life story of the Indian hockey player, Sandeep Singh. Playing the role of a hockey player was quite challenging for Taapsee. However, she took the challenge and trained to fit in the role. She was trained by none other than Sandeep Singh. Although the entire film was focused on the story of Sandeep Singh Taapsee’s Harpreet made her presence felt in the movie.
