6. Ross Milne
This young Austrian died just three days after Kazimierz’s death. Ross Milne was just 19 years old when he died after losing control during practice and hitting a tree. Winter Olympics was said to be cursed after a plane crashed into the mountains a month after the opening ceremony that killed 83 people.
7. Nikolai Peris Jett
During 1936, summer Olympics in Berlin, a Romanian boxer named- Nikolai Peris Jett died four days after fighting a featherweight boxing match. It was reported as the case of blood poisoning, some say it was due to injuries that remained because of fight.
8. Nodar Kumaritashvili
Hours before the Opening Ceremony at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada tragedy struck the games. A luger from the Republic of Georgia was doing a practice run on the track when he lost control of his sled going at 90mph. Nodar Kumaritashvili flew off the track and slammed into a metal pillar.
9. Eliska Misakova
She was the only person who was awarded the posthumous gold medal. Eliska Misakova, in the 1948 London Olympics, fell ill due to polio. She was the part of Czechoslovakia team. The day, she died in hospital, was the same day, their team received an Olympic gold medal.
10. Francisco Lazaro
This is a story of a marathon runner, who died covered in wax. Francisco Lazaro became the first person to die in the Olympics when he collapsed and died when running a marathon in 1912, Stockholm Olympics. Back in those days, sunscreen doesn’t really exist and it was really hot those days. He covered himself in wax to protect himself from the heat exhaustion but, This resulted in sweat-trapping in his body which caused a fatal fluid-electrolyte imbalance.
