Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the violence that has been ongoing in Manipur for the past two months on Thursday.

The Prime Minister, PM Modi, commented on the footage that showed two ladies being paraded in Manipur,

“I am filled with pain, and the incident is shameful for any civil society. No accused will be spared; we will never forgive those behind this.”

Before the Monsoon session of the Parliament began today, PM Modi spoke with the media and remarked,

“This a shameful incident for any society..who did this and who is responsible is another issue, but this has put our nation to shame. I appeal to all chief ministers to tighten law and order. Whether in Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, or Manipur…the issue of a woman’s honor is above all politics.”

Meanwhile, several opposition MPs have issued notices in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha calling for talks on the situation in Manipur in response to a recent uproar over a widely shared video showing two women being assaulted.

Sanjay Singh, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, suspended business in the Rajya Sabha under rule 267 and asked for a debate on the violence in Manipur.

AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi and Congressman Gaurav Gogoi sought adjournment motions in the Lok Sabha.

Manickam Tagore of the Congress submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha over the predicament in Manipur, calling for a discussion on the “violence against women and children in the northeastern state.”

To debate the Manipur issue in the Upper House, Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan, CPI MP Binoy Viswam, and Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Manoj Jha all gave notices suspending business.

The opposition parties are adamant that Prime Minister Narendra Modi be present throughout the conversation.

Centre’s Actions

The video of two Manipur women being paraded in Manipur is to be removed at the request of the Centre from Twitter and other social media sites. Following demonstrations by the Kuki and Naga groups over the High Court’s decision to incorporate the Meitei people in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list, the violence started on May 3. The majority Meitei community applied for ST classification to buy lands in mountainous regions. The administration anticipates conducting significant legislative activity during the Parliament’s monsoon session, which starts on Thursday and lasts through August 11. The 17-sitting session will begin at the former Parliament Building.

Actions should be strictly taken against the heinous criminals. It is awful, and it feels ashamed to be sharing a country with real-life monsters. Tell us your opinions in the comments below. We are waiting for your response!
