There is no city called Susa today, but the small town on the site exists, which is called Shush. From 8000 BC, it was the capital of the Elamite Empire; later, the Assyrians captured it. It was then captured by the Achaemenids Empire under Cyrus the Greek. The play called the Persians of Aeschylus takes place in the city and an Athenian tragedy in the oldest play that played in the history of the theatre.
