11. Alchi Monastery
Founded by Rinchen Zangpo in the 10th century, Alchi Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. Furthermore, it can be defined as a monastic complex as it houses many small monasteries.
12. Thiksey Monastery
Visiting the Thiskey Monastery would be pleasing for sure. However, this place is not for acrophobic. The 12 story building is an ideal place for meditation.
13. Hemis Monastery
The Hemis Monastery was founded by Sengge Namgyal. Built in the Tibetan style, the architecture was completed in 1672. The Monastery is dedicated to Tibetan Buddhism.
14. Lamayuru Monastery
It is situated on the Srinagar-Leh highway, Located at a height of 3,510 meters, the Lamayuru Monastery is one of the oldest and the largest monasteries in Ladakh. Furthermore, the monastery is a home for 150 monks.
15. Namgyal Tsemo Monastery
Founded in 1430 by King Tashi Namgyal of Ladakh, the monastery has a three-story high gold statue of Maitreya Buddha and ancient manuscripts and frescoes. Furthermore, the Monastery was featured in a television commercial by the WorldSoccerShop.com back in 2011.
