The general public is advised to follow the precautionary measures, which are also recommended by the COVID-19 State Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). Given the current COVID-19 scenario in the nation, the emergence of the JN.1 subvariant, the ongoing winter, and the anticipated crowding, particularly in confined areas during the year-end and New Year festivities.

The advisory, released by Randeep D, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, stated that “all elderly (60 years and above), comorbid (particularly with kidney, heart, liver ailments, etc.), pregnant women, and lactating mothers shall wear face masks when outdoors and strictly avoid visiting closed, poorly ventilated spaces and crowded areas.”

It stated that everyone experiencing respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, and runny nose should see a doctor as soon as possible. In addition, people should use face masks, which cover the mouth and nose, and stay away from crowded, poorly ventilated, and closed locations.

The circular went on to say that maintaining good personal hygiene, which includes frequent hand washing, is essential. “Remain at home when ill and limit your interactions with others, especially with elderly and vulnerable individuals.” Using a mask in busy areas is recommended, especially if the area is poorly ventilated.”

The recommendation advised staying alert and taking the necessary safety precautions when traveling abroad, like donning masks inside airplanes and airports and avoiding crowded areas with inadequate ventilation.

As per the circular, Karnataka must adhere to specific preventive and proactive measures in light of the COVID-19 cases. There’s no need to freak out just now or impose immediate limits to increase cross-border (between the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu) surveillance.

“All of the state’s bordering districts with Kerala and Tamil Nadu, however, need to exercise caution, guarantee proper testing, and promptly report any occurrences of COVID-19. All instances of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and at least one in twenty cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) at all government and private tertiary centers, including medical colleges, shall be tested for COVID-19, according to the circular.
