Iyer Family Gave Up Their Home, Job, And School To Live A Nomadic Lifestyle

The Iyer family decided to do something that is not possible for everyone to think about. The idea was to live a nomadic life with the family. Everyone loves holidays, which gives us the most needed break from the day to day life. Traveling for some days or months is an exciting thing to do but living forever on a never-ending vacation around the country is challenging. The Iyer family did the impossible thing. In 2019, the Iyer family gave up all their worldly pleasures. They sold off their Pune house, car, and furniture, everything to live a nomadic life. Santosh Iyer, an IT professional, let go of his job. Their kids, Haridhaan, and Khwahish gave up schooling. The family travels all over India, starting for no more than two months at a place.

Got The Taste Of A Nomatic Life

The idea strikes their mind after a small trek to Pavana Dam, and there they get a taste of the simple nomadic life, and the most exciting thing is that the family loves this idea. They soon let go of their belonging, and reduced their belonging to just four suitcases, and took off on an adventure of a lifetime. They have lived in cities like Rajkot, Palampur, Dalhousie, Kasauli, Ooty, Jaipur, and Udaipur.

Now The Question Is, How They Pick Up A Place?

The kids decide the place. They prepare a PPT presentation with why they should go there, hindrances they may face, and the best places to eat and to see. They give two options to their parents, and that’s how they pick a place to visit. Aanchal Iyer said their next destination in Uttarakhand. They choose places where they have a lot of learning attached to them and calm their kid’s curious nature.

Education With Home Schooling

Homeschooling is not an easy task. Parents didn’t want to put their kids through the rat race which they went through. Hridhaan, who earlier fell off to sleep on the first page of his book, is now a voracious reader. Hridhaan has a set timetable which he follows himself without any pressure. The six-year-old daughter also followed the footstep of his brother.

Learning From Farms And The Other Locals

Kids are learning but from home. So the parents decided to expose them to various cultures and people. Traveling is the best way to do this, the mother answered. They started off by testing the waters from the first trip to Pavana Dam in 2017. It was freezing cold but the kids adapted to the situation living with limited and basic amenities and food with a smile.

Life On Social Media Vs Reality

Traveling was fun, but it comes with its own challenges. Finding a home is the biggest challenge because no one wanted to rent their house to a family for two months and with an unknown origin. Living with limited utensils and food is quite challenging. Mrs. Aanchal Iyer explained you need to invest for some basic needs living in different places like Cooler, heater, and utensils. To fulfill their requirements, they need to cut down on their expenses.

The mother said, “My kids have become decision-makers.” They have learned how to question, and use their logic, and vocalize their thoughts. The kids don’t care their father has a car or not or how much money they have in their bank accounts. They are financially comfortable living this life, and only this matter. After all the hardship the family faced. The Iyer family is happy with their decision and living the kind of life they want and wished for.
