The Allahabad high court rejected a plea filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee. The petition has challenged an order passed by the Varanasi court on July 21. Moreover, the court directed ASI to do archaeological research on the Gyanvapi mosque premises. The court had also directed ASI to “find out” whether the “present structure” was “constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.”

Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Allahabad High Court demanding to seal plot number 9130 on the Gyanvapi campus. And the entry of non-Hindus should be banned. This is done to protect the sacred symbols.

On May 12, the Allahabad High Court allowed the scientific survey of this purported “shivling,” but the top court stayed this order on May 19.

Court’s Verdict

During the survey, a structure claimed to be a “Shivling” by the Hindu side and a “fountain” by the Muslim side. A bench led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud put the Varanasi court order on hold until July 26 to allow the mosque committee to move the High Court against the district court’s order. The mosque committee further argued that excavation work may damage the structural integrity of the Gyanvapi mosque.

Whereas the court has dismissed the Muslim side’s petition. Both parties are now waiting for the ASI’s verdict. It’s sad to see people fighting over a religion meant to teach humanity. One should respect all religions and not overshadow others. Whom do you think the verdict will be in favor of? Do you think the final verdict will give rise to more communal riots?
