Elon Musk declared the creation of a new political party on X, the social media network he oversees, on Saturday. Musk made the revelation after asking voters in a poll conducted on July 4 if they desired freedom from what he defined as the “two-party (some would say uniparty) system.” Of the more than 1.2 million votes cast, 65.4% were “yes.”
In other words, Musk said on Saturday, “You want a new political party and you shall have it by a factor of 2 to 1.” “We live in a one-party system, not a democracy, when it comes to destroying our nation through corruption and waste. To restore your freedom, the American Party was established today,” he posted.

Although there are still many unanswered questions regarding the recently formed American Party, Elon Musk has stated that the party’s main goals will be to reduce unnecessary government spending and carry out appropriate fiscal policies.
Musk put out the party’s strategy for entering U.S. politics in a post on X, proposing that it focus on only a few seats that could be won rather than running a wide range of candidates. To make the party a swing vote in a closely divided Congress, he added, “One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.”
Even though Musk is well-known, the American Party will face challenges in the future. Third parties have not always been welcomed in the U.S. political system. Although it now has 146 local and county-level posts around the country, the Libertarian Party, the largest third party, is not represented in the House.

Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency’s attempts to reduce government spending for several months this year. Under his direction, DOGE terminated thousands of government contracts and grants, hollowed out many agencies, and laid off hundreds of thousands of federal employees.
Trump’s “big beautiful bill” will raise the national debt by $3.4 trillion over ten years, according to the Congressional Budget Office, which is impartial. It also raises the debt ceiling by $5 trillion.
All but two Republicans in the House and three in the Senate backed the package, but Musk has blasted its effects on the debt and threatened to push primary opponents against them.
In talking about Musk’s birthplace of South Africa, Trump stated on Truth Social that “Elon would probably have to close up shop and head to South Africa without subsidies.” “We may have to put Doge on Elon,” the President also said to reporters in Florida.

Not much, but its name. Musk has said that the U.S. two-party system is effectively a “uniparty,” with comparable financial policies that do not reflect “the 80% in the middle.” However, he has not provided an explanation of his party’s ideology or goals, nor how it plans to achieve this.
He reposted a user’s X remark on Sunday morning that read, “Is this the America Party platform? Cut debt and only spend responsibly, modernize the military with robotics and artificial intelligence, pro-tech, speed up to win in AI, lessen regulations in all areas, but particularly in energy, pro-natalist, centrist policies everywhere else.”
Whether this venture becomes a political force or fades like many third-party attempts will depend not just on Musk’s influence but also on how it connects with everyday Americans beyond social media hype. For now, the American Party is more a symbol of growing dissatisfaction than a fully formed political movement, but it has undeniably stirred the pot.
