It has been 10 days since the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash that took over 270 lives. However, the traces of the Air India AI171 crash will remain forever. So many heartbreaking stories that make you emotional. We have read how an entire family lost their lives, a husband lost his life after fulfilling the last wish of his late wife, leaving their small daughters orphans. Now, another story that will break your heart is of Vaibhav Patel and his pregnant wife, Jinal Goswami.
They arrived in India with smiles, ready to celebrate new life, and celebrate their happiness for their soon-to-arrive baby, to reunite with family, to share laughter and love. No one knew it would be the last time they’d ever be seen alive. Just days after the joyful gathering, they boarded Air India Flight AI171, which was meant to take them back to their lives, work, and dreams. Instead, it became the final chapter of a story that began with love and ended in unimaginable tragedy.
A Baby Who Left Before Entering The World

What should have been the start of a fresh chapter became a heartbreaking goodbye. Jinal Goswami, 27, and Vaibhav Patel, 29, were looking forward to the birth of their first child. Having just had her baby shower, Jinal, who was in her seventh month of pregnancy, should have been filled with happiness, hope, and excitement for a wonderful future.
Their families gathered on June 2 for a traditional ritual that included blessings and laughter. The promises of a loving future were made, and gifts were given for the expectant child. The glowing soon-to-be parents were photographed by friends. The event, which united generations to welcome new life, was a memorable celebration for the families.
But God had other plans. After the baby shower, when they were going back, that tragedy happened.
On June 12, the couple boarded Air India Flight AI171, bound for London, ready to return and prepare for the baby’s birth in Southampton, where they had recently moved. They belonged to Keliya Vasna village of Dholka tehsil, but lived in London. Moments after take-off, it crashed near Ahmedabad, and the couple was among the 274 victims, including Vaibhav, Jinal, and their unborn child. What was meant to be a journey back to normal life turned into the family’s worst nightmare. Their close friend Nirav Patel said,
“They were very happy and excited for the birth of their first child.” He paused, then added something that pierced through the silence: “Vaibhav didn’t have a father. He was the eldest son supporting the family back in India.”
Vaibhav was more than just a husband and father-to-be. He was a pillar for his family, managing responsibilities across boundaries, supporting his home, and never complaining. Jinal, by his side, was the heartbeat of a future they had only begun to build.
Two days before the flight, he had called to inform me that he would be returning home. We had a lot of fun together and were very close friends. We traveled throughout India, including to places like Goa and Rajasthan. “This is a huge loss,” he said.
The only item found at the accident site so far is an idol of Lord Krishna that friends and relatives said Jinal was carrying at the time of the journey.
Ahmedabad Air India Flight Crash Left Only One Survivor

The Boeing 787-8 was carrying 242 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 cabin crew members on board the Air India aircraft as it flew to London Gatwick. The crash occurred in Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad. The aircraft fell on top of a doctor’s hostel building in a residential area.
The incident happened after the jet had taken off at 1:38 pm. The tragic incident occurred while the plane was in the air at about 621 feet.
Black smoke was observed rapidly rushing into the sky in thick clouds. There were 242 on board, including Vijay Rupani, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat. Surprisingly, only one person — Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British Indian male sitting in seat 11A — survived.
This is not just a crash. It’s a story of hopes crushed, lives destroyed, and a family that went from organizing a party to getting ready for a funeral. It serves as a reminder of how short life is and how easily happiness may give way to sadness.
And somewhere in all this, there remains a name that was never given — a child who never got to see the world, but whose memory will forever be connected with the parents who dreamed so deeply of meeting them.
