Walking away from a high-paying job at one of the world’s biggest technology companies is not a decision many people make easily. Roles at global firms like Google often offer financial stability, international exposure, and long-term career growth. For many professionals, it represents the ultimate career milestone.

But sometimes personal ambition leads people to take a completely different path. A Bengaluru-based professional, Srigeeta Shrinivas, recently made headlines after quitting her nearly decade-long career at Google to pursue content creation full-time. The decision has sparked conversations online about unconventional career choices, personal freedom, and the growing opportunities in the creator economy.

Leaving A ₹2 Crore Google Job After Nearly A Decade

Srigeeta Shrinivas, a former principal account manager at Google, has stepped away from a nearly 10-year career with the tech giant. Her roles at Google included working in Hyderabad and later Dublin, where she handled one of the company’s major European fashion clients.

Despite earning around ₹2 crore annually, Srigeeta decided to quit the job to pursue content creation full-time. Speaking to Moneycontrol, she explained that the decision was driven by a deeper desire to build something of her own.

“I made the decision to quit Google in June 2025. It came after a lot of reflection,” the 35-year-old said. “I had reached a point where the kind of growth I was seeking was no longer vertical, but expansive. I wanted to build something of my own and develop a variety of skills beyond a defined corporate role.”

She eventually resigned from Google in December 2025, bringing an end to her long corporate journey.

‘Financial Security Wasn’t Enough’

Leaving behind financial stability was one of the toughest aspects of the decision. Srigeeta revealed that her last drawn compensation at Google was roughly €200,000 annually, which translates to around ₹2 crore.

“It was a financially comfortable role, which is exactly why the decision was difficult,” she said. “But over time I realised that financial security alone wasn’t enough and I wanted to explore building something of my own.”

Her decision reflects a growing trend among professionals who are increasingly seeking creative freedom and independence rather than traditional corporate growth.

Content Creation Started Years Before Quitting

Interestingly, Srigeeta’s shift into content creation did not happen overnight. She had already been experimenting with it alongside her corporate role for nearly five years.

During that period, she discovered several skills she had never fully explored before. These included speaking on camera, storytelling, and building a digital audience.

“Through it, I discovered strengths I never fully explored – speaking on camera, storytelling, audience and brand building. Last year, I realised that if I didn’t give it a genuine shot, I would always wonder ‘what if’. So yes, I quit to build my own brand in public, and this has been both exciting and challenging,” she told Moneycontrol.

The Video That Unexpectedly Went Viral

When Srigeeta posted a video explaining her decision to leave Google, she initially expected it to be seen mostly by friends and family. However, the video quickly gained attention on Instagram and went viral.

According to her, the reel significantly boosted engagement on her social media account.

“That video unexpectedly resonated with many and went viral, taking my account from around 900 followers to over 3,000 within a month,” she said. “That response showed me that people are deeply curious about unconventional career decisions – especially when it involves leaving what many consider a ‘dream job’. The engagement has been meaningful because it’s not just about quitting a job. It’s about courage, finding freedom and overcoming limiting beliefs.”

‘Rebuilding Life After Quitting Google’

Srigeeta now documents her journey through a content series titled “Rebuilding life after quitting Google.” The series will continue until she reaches 100,000 followers on social media.

However, she clarified that the follower milestone is more symbolic than literal.

“It adds boldness and accountability to my journey. But the real goal of this series isn’t the follower count,” Srigeeta said. “I want to normalise ‘choosing differently’. Particularly in India, where success is often defined by a predictable sequence – degree, job, marriage, mortgage, children… If I can help even a small percentage of people feel seen and expanded in that process, I’d consider that a meaningful impact.”

Her content focuses on travel, personal growth, and unconventional career decisions.

Early Monetization Through Brand Collaborations

Although she recently transitioned into full-time content creation, Srigeeta has already begun monetising her platform.

She revealed that she has collaborated with a few travel-related brands to produce lifestyle content and visual assets.

“Some of these collaborations are travel and lifestyle content and visual assets for brands,” she said.

At the moment, her primary focus is on creating meaningful content while gradually building long-term partnerships with brands.

“Over the next month, I expect to close a few additional paid collaborations as I continue to grow my audience and refine my content style,” Srigeeta said.

Her long-term goal is to build a strong personal brand centred around travel, adventure, and unconventional life choices.

Would She Ever Return To A Corporate Job?

For now, Srigeeta says she is fully focused on growing her creator-led business and exploring opportunities in the expanding creator economy.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying the process of travelling, creating and understanding the commercial side of the creator economy,” she said.

However, she has not completely ruled out the possibility of returning to the corporate world in the future.

“That said, I’m not rigid about career choices. If a job opportunity aligns strongly with my values and long-term vision, I would evaluate it thoughtfully. For now, my work is a combination of content creation, influencing, and UGC (user-generated content) production,” she said.

Conclusion

Srigeeta Shrinivas’s journey reflects a broader shift in how professionals are rethinking traditional career paths. While high-paying corporate jobs remain highly desirable, the rise of the creator economy has opened new avenues for individuals seeking independence, creativity, and personal fulfillment.

Her story highlights the courage it takes to step away from a secure career and explore something uncertain but personally meaningful. As more professionals experiment with unconventional paths, stories like hers are likely to inspire conversations about redefining success in the modern world.
