Copenhagen Tops 2025 Happy City Index
A city in Denmark has been named the world’s happiest. The city once again topped the list. The Happy City Index, developed by the Institute for Quality of Life, has named Copenhagen the happiest city for 2025. The city accumulated 1,039 points.
Copenhagen is the happiest city due to its high environmental performance and great citizen engagement. Another Danish city ranked fourth on the list. Aarhus had a high citizen score of 233, with 173 in robust governance and 170 in environmental activities.
Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich, Switzerland, ranks second on the list with 993 points. The city is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere, strong economy, and good public services. “The average earnings in the city surpass the national average by 75 percent, making it one of the wealthiest urban centres worldwide,” states the research. The report additionally mentions, “Zurich maintains one of the safest road networks with a traffic-related fatality rate of just 0.07 per 10,000 residents.”
Where Do Asian Countries Stand On The List?
Asian countries such as Singapore ranked third, Seoul sixth, and Taipei eighth. It is worth mentioning that Taipei is the only city in the top ten that leads in governance.
Indian Cities Absent From Top 10
India does not have any cities in the top ten of the Happiness Index. However, according to the World Population Review report, India’s global happiness score in 2024 was 4.05, indicating that the country is improving in terms of life satisfaction among its citizens. However, variables such as population, societal hurdles, and conflicts require reforms and initiatives to enhance Indian cities and propel them up the Happiness rankings.
