1. The Dance of Zalongo

During the Souliote War of 1803, women and children of Souli, a place near Zalongo in Epirus (Greece) committed mass suicide. The Ottoman-Albanian ruler, Ali Pasha defeated Souliote 1803 after which the people started to evacuate the place.  It was during the evacuation the forces of Ali Pasha trapped 50 women and children. To escape the danger of getting their dignity ripped off, the women threw their children off a steep cliff they jumped too.

The women jumped singing and dancing after one another. This horrific incident became infamous in Europe. Today, Mount Zalongo in Kassope (Greece), the mountain that saw that tragedy has a monument that commemorate the incident.

 

2. The Battle of Aquae Sextiae

The Battle of Aquae Sextiae took place iN 102 BC. After the Romans defeated Teutons their king, Teutobod has taken chains. After the war ended, approximately 300 married women were given to Romans as their slaves. Women didn’t wanted to compromise their dignity and so they slew their own children and strangled them selves.

 

3. Bali – 1906

Balinese people committed Puputan in September 14, 1906 owing to the fear to surrender to the Dutch forces. The king ‘Raja’ was dressed in the tradition white attire and stabed by the priest. People too killed themselves in front of the dutch forces.

 

4. Demmin, Germany
