When we hear the word sperm donor in India, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Vicky Donor comes to our mind. The movie, which was based on a taboo subject, has been presented to the audience so beautifully. Well, here we are, not talking about the real-life sperm donor; we are talking about the real-life sperm donor, Jonathan Jacob Meijer. Jonathan Jacob Meijer is a sperm donor suspected of fathering over 550 children. My God, what you just read is insanely true. Yes, he is suspected of fathering over 550 children, and the Dutch Court has asked Jonathan to stop donating any more sperm.

Jonathan Jacob Meijer is a 41-year-old man from the Netherlands. However, currently, he is based in Kenya. He is also a musician. Jonathan is believed to have donated sperm to 13 clinics, of which 11 are from the Netherlands. According to reports, in 2017, the court barred Jonathan from donating any more sperm to the hospitals in the Netherlands as they found that he had fathered more than a hundred children. However, he did not follow the rules and continued donating both online and offline.

How Was Jonathan Caught Again?

Jonathan was caught lying about the number of times he had donated sperm to different clinics. He was sued for “allegedly lying about the number of children he had fathered- and increasing the risk of his children accidentally engaging in incest with his prolific donations.”

Back in 2018, Eva, a woman who gave birth to one of Jonathan’s children, said,

“If I had known he had already fathered more than 100 children I would never have chosen this donor. When I think about the consequences this could have for my child I am sick to my stomach. Going to court is the only way to protect my child.”

On Friday, The court ordered Jonathan Jacob Meijer to “immediately stop donating his sperm to fertility clinics and imposed a fine of more than 100,000 Euros”( which is equivalent to Rs 90,41,657)

During the hearing, the court asked Jonathan to provide a list containing all the clinics he has donated sperm to. All the places will then be asked to destroy the sperm of Jonathan Jacob Meijer as quickly as possible.

Jonathan broke the Dutch clinical guidelines that one cannot father more than 25 children in 12 families.

Psychological Consequences On The Children

This incident has a negative psychological consequence on the children as they are part of a kinship with hundreds of half-brothers and half-sisters.

A spokesman said, “The point is that this kinship network with hundreds of half-brothers and half-sisters is much too large.”
