The much-anticipated spelling bee, which thrilled the nation, ended with two outstanding finalists: Charlotte Walsh of Virginia and Shah of Florida. With the anticipation of a potential spell-off mounting, Shah emerged as the victorious speller, as he successfully spelled the word “psammophile.” It refers to an organism that flourishes in sandy soils.

Shah, a student at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School, demonstrated his quick and exact spelling talents in the 14th round of the tournament by accurately spelling “bathypitotmeter.” However, according to the spelling bee rules, Shah needed to correctly spell one more word to win the coveted title of champion.

Shah was formally named champion under a shower of confetti, and he was joined on stage by his parents and other relatives to celebrate his extraordinary success. Shah will receive a $50,000 cash award from the competition’s sponsor, E.W. Scripps Co (SSP.O), as well as additional monetary prizes and essential reference materials from Encyclopaedia Britannica and Merriam-Webster.
