Maharashtra’s skydiver Sheetal Rane Mahajan has made history by jumping from a height of 13 thousand feet in a Maharashtrian sari. This feat was performed on Monday in Pattaya, Thailand. Sheetal is the first Indian to be recognized by the world in Adventure Sports, who made a jump by wearing saris more than 8 meters.
She is the mother of twin boys and their age is 9 years. In the 14-year career, Sheetal has registered more than 700 dives at the National and International level.
“I wanted to do something different earlier than International Women’s Day next month. Therefore, in the skydiving, we wear the Maharashtrian ‘Nawawari Sari’. But it was quite challenging after the parachute was opened in the dive, managing saree with all safety equipment was not easy.”
“For this, I had to prepare a lot beforehand. Because the winds of the Gulf of Thailand were quite fast. This saree is about 8.25 meters long. Which is more than other Indian sarees. There are different ways of wearing them in the country, but it is hard to wear Maharashtrian sarees. ” is what Sheetal had to say when she was interviewed after her record-breaking dive.

Sheetal admitted to preparing extensively for this dive by wetting her saree. And pinning it in different places so it doesn’t come off.
