The Mysterious Seat 11A: Air India Survivor Sat In Same Seat As Thai Airways Crash Survivor, 27 Years Apart

In the chaotic collapse of devastating plane crashes, survival often seems impossible. But in a twist that defies all odds and logic, two individuals — seated in the very same seat, 11A — walked away from two separate air disasters nearly 30 years apart. Their stories are not just about luck or fate, but about resilience, second chances, and the strange, almost mystical coincidence that connects them across time and tragedy.

Deadly Air India Crash: The Recent Tragedy

On Thursday afternoon, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick, crashed, killing many on board, including two pilots and ten cabin crew members.

The Shocking Coincidence: Survivors In Seat 11A Across Decades

Nearly three decades apart, the two survivors of the plane disasters shared the same seat, 11A. The first crash occurred in Thailand in 1998, the second in India in 2025, and both survivors escaped almost certain death.

Popular Thai actor and singer Ruangsak Loychusak was one of the only people who survived the crash, and according to his most recent post, he also happened to be sitting in seat 11A.

Thai actor and musician James Ruangsak Loychusak was taken aback to learn that the sole survivor of the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash was occupying seat 11A, the same seat he occupied when he defied death 27 years earlier.

Flashback To 1998: The Thai Airways Tragedy

The story’s frightening aspect is enhanced by its striking similarity to another aviation disaster: Thai Airways Flight 261, which crashed in southern Thailand in 1998.

When the actor heard about the sole Air India Flight AI171 crash survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the lone survivor of the Ahmedabad plane crash, a 40-year-old Indian origin Britisher, who also happened to be seated in 11A, he noticed the strange coincidence.

When Thai Airways aircraft TG261 crashed in 1998 while trying to land in Surat Thani, a city in southern Thailand, 47-year-old Mr. Loychusak was on board. 101 of the 146 people on board were killed when the plane crashed during landing after stalling in midair after taking off from Bangkok. He was sitting in 11A and was one of the survivors.

“Only Survivor of Air India Crash Sat in 11A — Same Seat as Thai Airways Crash Survivor”

“Survivor of a plane crash in India. He sat in the same seat as me. 11A,” he wrote on Facebook.

However, this was really a coincidence because the Thai Airways disaster had several survivors. On the other hand, only one person survived the Air India tragedy.

Different Flights, Different Aircraft – But Same Seat

The two planes were also not the same. Air India Flight AI171 was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, and the Thai Airways flight was an Airbus A310. The two aircraft have differing 11A layouts, designs, and seat arrangements.

As of June 12, the Air India jet headed for London took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and crashed into the hostel building of a local medical institution just 30 seconds later. Viswashkumar Ramesh was the sole survivor of the 242 passengers on board.
