The world stage has just received a dramatic twist! At a time when India is at odds with the United States over high tariffs, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed strong admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin’s admiration for India, describing it as a country that “will never allow itself to be humiliated,” has prompted new discussion in diplomatic circles and thrown social media into overdrive. Is this a subtle demonstration of togetherness or a clear indication of shifting global alliances? Let’s look at what this means for India, the United States, and the world.
Putin Hails PM Modi As A ‘Wise Leader,’ Says India Won’t Bow To US Pressure

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized the US for attempting to compel India to quit trading Russian crude. He stated that New Delhi will not be humiliated in front of anyone. The Russian President lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “balanced and wise leader” during a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi, emphasizing Moscow-New Delhi’s “special” relationship.
Putin praised India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as a “balanced, wise, and nationally oriented” leader. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a friend, stating that he feels at ease with their trustworthy conversations.
“The Indian people will look at the decisions made by their political leaders and would never tolerate humiliation in front of anyone, and I know Prime Minister Modi will never take such moves…” Putin stated during a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi.
Putin Says India Saves $10 Billion By Importing Russian Crude

Putin clarified that India’s import of Russian crude oil is “purely an economic calculation.” He predicted that if India stopped buying Russian energy supplies, it would incur losses of $9–10 billion. “If it does not refuse, sanctions will be enforced, resulting in the same loss. So why deny that it also has domestic political consequences?” Putin asked.

Putin stated that India’s losses owing to punitive US tariffs would be offset by oil imports from Russia. He stated that this will boost India’s standing as an independent nation.
“Of course, the people of a country like India, believe me, would attentively follow the decisions taken by political leaders and will never tolerate humiliation in front of others. And secondly, I know Prime Minister Modi: he would never take such moves.”
The Russian leader’s words come two weeks after US President Joe Biden referred to China and India as the “primary funders” of the Ukraine war, accusing them of subsidizing it by continuing to purchase Russian oil. The US has placed an additional 25% tariff on India as retaliation for purchasing Russian oil, bringing the total levy on Indian exports to 50% in August.
Russia Will Acquire More Agricultural Products And Pharmaceuticals From India
Putin emphasized the “special” nature of Russia-India relations going back to the Soviet era. He also recognized the trade disparity between New Delhi and Moscow. To remedy this, he proposed that Russia purchase more agricultural products and pharmaceuticals from India.
“We can take certain precautions to protect medicinal supplies and medications. We need to solve a wide range of tasks to unlock our opportunities and potential advantages,” he stated.
