Ray Lewis III died on Thursday at the age of 28. Ray Lewis, a Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker who played for the Miami Hurricanes and the Baltimore Ravens, was his father. He committed to play college football at the University of Miami after graduating from high school. He joined the Miami Hurricanes as a running back and also served as a returner on special teams. However, injuries put a pause on his college career.
However, Lewis made his collegiate debut for the Hurricanes in 2013. During his undergraduate career, he largely functioned as a backup running back and appeared in only a few games. Due to injuries and depth chart competition, he struggled to gain consistent playing time.
Lewis went from the University of Miami to Coastal Carolina University, where he completed his football career with the Chanticleers. From 2014 through 2016, he played for Coastal Carolina, seeking to establish himself as a vital player. However, he had difficulty establishing a significant position on the team, and his numbers remained low.

Rahsaan Lewis III, Ray Lewis III’s brother, confirmed the devastating news of his brother’s death with a photo on his Instagram story. It read,
“Really can’t believe I’m even typing this but RIP big brother. A true angel I pray your at peace now because how much you was hurtin I don’t and won’t ever have the words man cuz this pain right here. I love you I love you I love you your niece gone miss you but she will hear about u over and over just watch over us all big bruh be our guardian I promise I’ll make you smile and proud.”
Lewis’ former coach at Virginia Union, where he finished his playing career, has also confirmed the news.
While Ray Lewis III did not attain the same degree of success as his father, his tenacity and endurance in pursuing a football career show his love for the game. Despite the challenges he faced, Lewis made significant accomplishments throughout his undergraduate years and left his mark as part of the football history linked with his surname.
