Gujarat’s Gambhira Bridge Collapse: Many Dead, Major Travel Disruptions Across Vadodara

The bridge fell and took the lives of people with it. The recent Gambhira bridge collapse in Gujarat isn’t just structural. In addition to creating a 50-kilometer bypass that is making everyday travel a daily routine, Gujarat has left more than a gap in infrastructure. This is more than simply a barrier for the residents. It serves as a daily reminder of what has been lost and what remains unaccounted for.

The Gambhira Bridge Of Gujarat

Constructed in 1986 at a total cost of Rs 343 lakh, the 40-year-old bridge, which is extremely well-known as a suicide spot, connects Central Gujarat, South Gujarat, and Saurashtra. The Gambhira bridge, which is around 900 meters long, has 23 piers and a catchment area of 30,976.00 square kilometers.

An essential bridge in Gujarat that connects the districts of Anand and Vadodara collapsed on Wednesday morning, killing around eleven people and forcing workers to drive an additional fifty kilometers. Additionally, all cars from South Gujarat will be rerouted to Vasad Road, which is expected to cause traffic congestion at the toll plaza.

In Vadodara district, four vehicles — two lorries, a Bolero SUV, and a pickup van — were crossing the bridge when a section of it collapsed and unexpectedly fell into the Mahisagar River during rush hour.

Just before the cars fell into the river, witnesses claimed to have heard a loud cracking sound. Authorities from the Vadodara district administration, the local police, and the fire department quickly arrived on the spot and started rescue efforts.

A truck was seen hanging dangerously on the edge of the fallen Gambhira Bridge across the Mahisagar River. In a video released, it is seen.

People from several villages in the Anand area who are travelling to Padra for work will now also have to deal with challenges, even though traffic has been temporarily diverted towards Sindhrot as a backup plan. The vehicles will need to take a 16-kilometer detour for this.

PM Modi Expresses Condolences For The Deaths Caused By The Bridge Collapse

“It is really unfortunate that people died as a result of a bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Vadodara district. To those who have lost a loved one, my condolences.” In a post on X, the prime minister’s office wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Additionally, the PM’s office declared that each dead person’s next of kin would get an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Chief Minister Of Gujarat Expresses His Sadness

In addition to expressing sadness over the loss, Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel stated that the state’s roads and structures department has been ordered to investigate the collapse and provide a report. There has been a heartbreaking accident caused by the collapse of a section of the Gambhira Bridge, which connects Anand and Vadodara.

“The state government supports each and every family impacted by this tragedy with the deepest empathy. The relatives of each person who died in the accident will receive 4 lakh rupees in help from the state government. Also, the state government will cover all medical expenses and ensure that each accident victim receives 50,000 rupees in support,” Bhupendra Patel made a post on the social media site X.
