Fatehabad Toll Plaza Chaos On Diwali: ₹33 Lakh Loss As Workers Let Cars Pass Free Over ₹1,100 Bonus Protest

This Diwali, imagine driving through a toll plaza and discovering the gates wide open with no lines, no payment, just stunned faces around. That’s precisely what happened when angry toll plaza workers at Agra Lucknow Expressway chose to allow cars to pass for free in protest after being given a pitiful Diwali bonus. A normal workday was transformed into a spectacular Diwali clash due to an outbreak of rage, which reportedly cost the company close to ₹33 lakh in missed income.

Toll Staff Protest Over Low Diwali Bonus

The disturbance started when 21 workers at the Shri Sign & Datar-run Fatehabad toll plaza complained that they were only given ₹1,100 as a Diwali bonus.

Since taking over toll management in March of this year, the corporation has had to deal with disagreements over the distribution and computation of bonuses.

The workers halted work and opened all toll gates, enabling cars to pass freely in protest of the low bonus. Toll officials attempted to deploy employees from other plazas as thousands of vehicles crossed without paying, but demonstrators blocked replacements, making matters worse.

Following the local police’s intervention, the corporation and its employees came to an agreement. When the management promised to raise salaries by 10% going forward, the workers agreed to report back to work. Authorities said normal operations have been restored, and toll collection resumed at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Festive Pay Dispute Turns Into Costly Lesson For Management

Dissatisfaction among workers can rapidly turn into a major disturbance, as shown by the Diwali bonus protest at the Fatehabad toll plaza. Even though things are back to normal, the incident shows how management and employees are becoming increasingly tense over equitable pay during holiday seasons. For businesses, it serves as a reminder of the need for prompt communication and gratitude because, on occasion, a tiny bonus can avert a significant loss.
