India’s glorious victory in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan in Dubai was supposed to be a moment of pure celebration. But instead of joyous scenes, the night turned into chaos. The presentation ceremony saw unprecedented drama when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi allegedly walked away with the winners’ trophy, leaving the stage empty and fans shocked.

India Refuses To Accept Trophy From PCB Chief

After defeating Pakistan by five wickets, Team India was in no mood to receive the silverware from Naqvi. Reports suggest that players had already told the organizers that they would not accept the trophy if handed over by the PCB chief. Their stance was clear and firm.

The unusual turn of events stunned spectators in the stadium and millions watching worldwide. For India, the victory was already secured on the field, but the drama off it raised bigger questions about sportsmanship and conduct at the highest level.

BCCI’s Strong Response

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia did not hold back in his post-match statement. He congratulated the Indian team but made his protest crystal clear. Saikia said,

“My first reaction is that BCCI is extremely happy and we congratulate the Indian cricket team for defeating Pakistan hands down — at the group stage, at the Super 4, and in the final. All three matches were one-sided, and we congratulate our players as well as the support staff for bringing glory to our country.”

Linking the victory to national pride, he added,

“Our armed forces have delivered on the border. Now the same thing has been repeated in Dubai. This is an excellent moment, a momentous occasion for Indian cricket.”

BCCI Announces Cash Reward

The board also confirmed a huge reward for the team. Saikia said,

“We are very happy and they have done an extremely good job, defeating Pakistan 3-0. There was absolutely no resistance. So we have decided that there will be a cash reward of 21 crores. It will be distributed among the players and all the support staff.”

This announcement was met with cheers from fans, who felt the team’s dominating performance deserved every bit of recognition.

The Asia Cup Trophy Controversy

But Devajit Saikia’s strongest words were directed at the trophy controversy. Saikia added,

“In fact, we have decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the leaders of Pakistan. But that does not mean the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals. This is very unfortunate, very unsporting, and we hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India as soon as possible.”

He further confirmed that BCCI will take this matter forward formally. “There is an ICC conference in the first week of November in Dubai. We are going to launch a very serious and strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson.”

Asia Cup 2025 Final Match Highlights

While the off-field drama stole headlines, the final itself had moments of brilliance. Pakistan got off to a strong start with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) laying a solid foundation. But Kuldeep Yadav turned the game around with a magical spell of 4/30, dismantling their middle order.

Pakistan was bowled out for 146. India started poorly, losing three wickets at just 20 runs. But then Sanju  Samson and Tilak Varma steadied the chase. After Sanju got out, Tilak Varma (69 not out) and Shivam Dube (33) put together a composed 60-run partnership to take India home by five wickets. The performance was clinical, leaving no doubts about India’s supremacy throughout the tournament.

India’s Asia Cup win should have been remembered purely for cricketing excellence. Instead, it will also be remembered for the shocking trophy controversy. With BCCI now set to escalate the matter at the ICC, the incident has cast a shadow over what was otherwise a flawless campaign for Team India.

For the players and fans, the message remains clear: the trophy might have been misplaced for a moment, but the glory of victory belongs firmly to India.
