BCCI Review Meeting: BCCI Shortlists 20 Players For 2023 ODI World Cup

The BCCI review meeting was finally held today. The agenda was to talk about the loss of the T20 World Cup, fitness, injuries, and the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The BCCI has shortlisted 20 core players who will be part of the 2023 Men’s World Cup in India. However, BCCI has decided that these players will be rotated so that there will be proper preparation before the mega event held in India in November.

Head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, chief selector Chetan Sharma, and NCA head  VVS Laxman attended the meeting that went on for nearly four hours in Mumbai. Roger Binny, BCCI President, attended the meeting via video conferencing. Many decisions and steps are taken in the meeting, including prioritizing bilateral and international cricket. A BCCI source who attended the meeting said, “It was a very constructive and fruitful meeting where we reviewed the past performance and planned for future events, including World Cup and World Test Championship (WTC). We will give preference for international cricket while making sure the IPL is not diluted.”

BCCI said, “The issues of player availability, workload management, and fitness parameters were also discussed at length during the meeting along with the roadmap to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.”

BCCI said that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will “work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023.” as the nodal center for the fitness of Indian players. Also, fitness will not be compromised as the Yo-yo test is back as the selection criteria. Both Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will be the part of selection criteria, and also, the pool of players are identified.
