Audrey Crews lived in quiet for twenty long years, disabled yet conscious. She is creating history now. Audrey, the first female receiver of Elon Musk‘s Neuralink chip, has achieved what was unthinkable. She is once again writing and drawing, but this time with her mind rather than her hands. Her story serves as an important reminder of both the future of neurotechnology and human resilience, in addition to being a medical miracle for her journey.
Who Is Audrey Crews?
The quadriplegic Audrey Crews, commonly referred to as “Patient P9” by Neuralink, has been paralyzed for 20 years as a result of an accident. She became the first female recipient of Neuralink’s brain chip implant in July 2025, which enables her to operate a computer with her thoughts. The “N1 Implant” or “The Link,” as it is commonly called, is surgically inserted into her skull and uses electrical signals detected in her brain to send commands to an external device.
Audrey’s experience with Neuralink, which allows her to write, draw, and play games with just her thoughts, has been a major turning point in the field of neurotechnology. Many people have shared her story, which has sparked conversations about disability activism, technology, and medicine.
Name Written By Her Mind
Audrey recently posted a picture of her laptop screen with the name “Audrey” inscribed in digital ink, a red heart, and vibrant doodles that were made telepathically. The doodles included a face, a bird, and a piece of pizza. “Here are some more of my doodles!” she wrote as the caption. I’m accepting requests. Funny, right? Without actually doing anything, picture your wrist moving the cursor and your pointer finger becoming the left click. Using telepathy on an ordinary day.
The message came after she wrote her name for the first time in 20 years, which went viral earlier. In reply to the success, Neuralink co-founder Elon Musk said, “She is controlling her computer just by thinking.” The majority of people are unaware that this is possible.
The World’s First Woman To Do This
“Here’s more information about how my BCI brain-computer interface implant works and my surgery,” she said in a follow-up article meant to inform curious internet users. “Everything is going amazingly,” according to Crews, who claimed she went through the procedure last week. She explained that the procedure included cutting a hole in her skull and inserting 128 threads into the motor cortex of her brain.
“They made a hole in my skull and inserted 128 threads into my motor cortex during brain surgery. The chip is roughly a quarter in size. The University of Miami Health Center’s people were fantastic. They are some of the loveliest people I’ve ever come across, and they treated me like a VIP,” she continued.
According to Crews, the implant enables her to use the computer using her mind, and will gradually be expanded to other electronic devices. She added,
“The BCI lets me control my computer using my mind. I’ll be able to control more electronic devices in the near future. I also want to clarify that this implant will not allow me to walk again or regain movement. It’s strictly for telepathy only. We are still in Miami, but I’ll be home soon, and we’ll post more vids explaining the process in more detail. I am the first woman in the world to do this.”
What Is Neuralink?
Elon Musk founded Neuralink in 2016 with the goal of directly connecting computers to the human brain. The long-term objective is to assist individuals with neurological disorders, such as paralysis, in regaining their digital independence so they might possibly operate with artificial limbs or speak without using words.
As she improves, Audrey intends to keep posting videos and updates. “We’ll post more videos explaining the process in more detail when I get home,” she said. Her journey is only getting started as the first female user of Neuralink’s technology.
