Leaving a stable corporate job can be a difficult decision. It becomes even harder when there is no clear idea about what comes next. For Iswaryaa G P, however, that uncertainty became part of the journey. The former Deloitte employee left her corporate career and moved into content creation. Now, according to Chennai-based founder Jaya Shakthi Kannan, the decision has opened doors to opportunities connected to movies, hosting, television and web series. Her story has also sparked a conversation about whether a person really needs to know exactly where they will be five or 10 years from now.

She Was Asked About Her Five-Year Plan

Kannan recently shared his conversation with Iswaryaa in a LinkedIn post. He asked her a question that is common during career discussions: What was her plan for the next five years? Her response surprised him.

“She left Deloitteto become a content creator. I asked her, ‘What’s your plan for the next 5 years?’”

According to Kannan, Iswaryaa replied: “I have no clue.”

Her answer was not because she lacked ambition. Instead, she explained that her current career itself was something she had not planned a year earlier. “One year ago, I never imagined I would become a content creator. So how can I predict what I’ll be doing five years from now,” Kannan quoted her as saying.

Why She Is Focusing On The Next Six Months

Instead of creating a detailed five-year roadmap, Iswaryaa is focusing on what she can do in the immediate future. Her approach is simple. She wants to do her best, learn, explore and stay open to opportunities. Kannan explained her thinking in his post.

“Instead, she is focusing on the next 6 months. Do her best. Learn. Explore. And whenever an opportunity comes her way, grab it,” he wrote.

According to Kannan, this approach has already taken her beyond content creation. He said she is receiving opportunities related to movies, hosting, television and web series. The story therefore reflects a career path that has changed considerably from the one Iswaryaa had while working in the corporate sector.

Kannan Questions The Traditional Five-Year Plan

Iswaryaa’s approach also made Kannan rethink the way people usually look at their careers. “We often create a fixed 5-year or 10-year plan and keep moving like a horse with blinders. But what if there is a shorter path?” He argued that career journeys do not always follow a straight line. People can begin in one field and eventually discover opportunities in another.

“Look at people like Jack Ma, Arnold Schwarzenegger, C. Joseph Vijay and Reed Hastings. They started with one thing, evolved into something else, and eventually became great at something nobody could have predicted when they started.” For Kannan, the broader lesson is not that long-term planning is unnecessary. Instead, he believes people can have a general direction while remaining flexible about the exact destination.

‘Plan The Next 6 Months’

Kannan summed up his approach with a shorter-term philosophy. “Maybe we don’t need to know exactly where we’ll be in 5 years.” He then added, “Have a direction. Plan the next 6 months. Keep your eyes open. Grab the right opportunities. And evolve.” His final message focused on the uncertainty that naturally comes with a career.

“Your first step doesn’t have to define your final destination. Sometimes, the unexpected path is the one that takes you somewhere extraordinary.” He also wished Iswaryaa well for the next stage of her career. “My best wishes to Iswaryaa G P for the journey ahead!”

Who Is Iswaryaa G P?

Iswaryaa’s own LinkedIn profile describes the career change in straightforward terms. “So I quit my ‘dream job’ at Deloitte. Now, I’m a content & growth strategist at TownScholar, a brand storytelling company,” she wrote in her bio. She also added:

“Also, create videos about anything and everything I want to talk about.”

Before making the transition, Iswaryaa studied at SSM Lakshmi Ammal Matric Higher Secondary School and later graduated from PSG College of Technology. She worked at Deloitte for more than three years before moving into her new career. Her current work combines content creation with brand storytelling, giving her a professional path that looks quite different from her earlier corporate role.

A Different Way Of Looking At Career Growth

Kannan’s post has also encouraged LinkedIn users to discuss whether people should focus less on rigid long-term plans and more on shorter-term goals. Iswaryaa’s journey does not suggest that everyone should leave a corporate job or abandon long-term planning. Instead, her experience highlights how a career can evolve when someone remains open to opportunities that were not part of the original plan.

For now, her focus appears to be on the next six months rather than trying to predict the next five years. And that shift has already taken her from a Deloitte career into content creation, with opportunities now emerging across entertainment and media.
