It is not a new thing that candidates often reject offers that startup owners make. However, there is a difference between replying politely and brutally. Founder and CEO of healthcare startup Walnut, Roshan Patel, shared one incident where he was rejected brutally. The tale is about two years old. However, he still is taken aback by how an engineer rejected his job offer.

Furthermore, the woman gave a very straightforward reply to Roshan Patel. Her response is now going viral on Twitter, as shared by Roshan himself. So if you are curious about it, you are in for a treat. Read on to enlighten yourself about the brutal reply by an engineer.

Walnut is a healthcare startup by Roshan Patel. In 2021, he contacted a software engineer to check if she would be interested in working for their company. However, the reply that he received to his question made him completely stunned. So much so that even today, he thinks about it.

Roshan asked her the question of joining his company shortly after Walnut raised funding in a pre-seed round. He reached out to many potential candidates. One among the many was this woman. He asked her, as we quote,

“I run a startup increasing access to healthcare by making it more affordable. We just raised a pre-seed round and are looking to hire talented engineers. Any interest in chatting?”

To this, the woman replied that her current CTC is more than Walnut’s pre-seed round. She said, as we quote,

“Hi Roshan, I just checked on Crunchbase and my current salary is more than your entire pre-seed round.”

Roshan Shared This Convo On Twitter; Here’s How Netizens Reacted

Roshan took to Twitter and shared this exciting conversation. He posted the screenshot of this conversation meanwhile blurred out the engineer’s name to protect privacy. He captioned the Tweet as we quote,

“Still thinking about this exchange almost 2 years later.”

On the one hand, there is a group of Twitterati who consider the woman’s reply rude. Meanwhile, on the other hand, there were some who came in support of the woman’s boldness. One user wrote, as we quote,

“She ain’t wrong. Especially when 90% of start-ups fail. Also, at that salary rate, she is well-established in her career and doing well. Just noticed the — after the name, comes across like a spray and pray message probably sent by a script as well. She said what she said.”

Another user wrote that the woman in question was looking for “financial stability,” and there is nothing wrong it that. In fact, it is scarce for startups to be successful anyway.

You would be astounded to note that so far, the tweet has received around 3.7 million views. Furthermore, as per Crunchbase, New York-based startup Walnut has raised $113.6M in funding over four rounds. The startup had raised $3.6 million in April 2021.
