Hulk Hogan, the wrestling icon who defined and lived an era and brought sports entertainment into the mainstream, has passed away at the age of 71 due to cardiac arrest.
Who Was Hulk Hogan?

He made his professional debut in August 1977, and he got the nickname “Hulk” from his appearance on a talk show with Lou Ferrigno, star of the Incredible Hulk, whom the host pointed out was shorter than the 6’7″ Hogan.

After joining the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which would later become known as WWE, in 1979, Hogan became extremely famous. He took the name Hulk Hogan after WWF owner Vince McMahon Sr. recommended that he use an Irish last name.
In 1984, he won the WWF Heavyweight Title, sparking “Hulkamania” and raising the sport’s profile. He became a member of the New World Order wrestling organization and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and again in 2020.

Hulk Hogan represented Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the 1980s and early 1990s, and because of Hogan’s charisma and McMahon’s skill at marketing, professional wrestling became a part of popular culture.
Battles with opponents like The Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper became legendary, but as the 1990s went on, Hogan and the WWF’s relationship started to shift.
His Personal Life

On December 18, 1983, Hogan tied the knot with Linda Claridge. The two have a son named Nick and a daughter named Brooke. After learning of Hogan’s alleged affair, Claridge ultimately filed for divorce. In December 2010, Hogan wed Jennifer McDaniel, but their union also ended in divorce. Hogan announced their divorce on social media in 2022.

The rivalry between the two promotions intensified after Hogan’s move to WCW (World Championship Wrestling). During this time, which is sometimes called the “Monday Night Wars,” both businesses were competing for viewers’ attention on Monday nights.
Under Hogan’s leadership, WCW saw considerable success and frequently exceeded WWF in the ratings. The edgier “Attitude Era” resulted from the WWF being forced to reinvent itself. As a result, celebrities like The Rock, Steve Austin, and Stone Cold rose to fame.
In addition to being a personal choice, Hulk Hogan’s decision to join WCW had a significant impact on the wrestling industry as a whole. It showed the value of freedom of expression for talent, the effect of competition on the caliber of content, and the fact that the only thing that is constant in the wrestling industry is change.
Hulk Hogan’s choice to leave WWF for WCW was influenced by financial incentives, but it was also motivated by a need for autonomy, reinvention, and the desire to stay relevant in a field that was always changing.
Rest in peace, wrestling hero!
