White House Hosted Vegetarian Dinner For PM Narendra Modi; Check What’s On The Menu

In a groundbreaking move, the White House rolled out the red carpet to honor Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a sumptuous vegetarian feast. The event on June 22nd marked the first time in history that the prestigious venue served an entirely plant-based menu—this historic gesture aimed to fortify the relationship between the United States and India. Thus demonstrating respect for PM Modi’s devout vegetarianism.

Culinary Expertise Takes Center Stage

To curate this exceptional menu, Sacramento-based Chef Nina Curtis was invited as the guest chef. Her talent and expertise shone through as she crafted an exquisite three-course meal for over 400 distinguished guests. While the menu did not feature traditional Indian dishes, it tantalized taste buds with innovative creations.

A Gastronomic Delight For The Senses

The dinner began with a refreshing salad combining marinated millet, grilled corn, and compressed watermelon, complemented by an avocado sauce. However, the star of the show undoubtedly stole the spotlight—a stuffed portobello mushroom paired with saffron-infused risotto. Thus delivering a creamy and aromatic indulgence. Guests were also treated to a selection of lemon-dill yogurt sauce, crisped millet cakes, and summer squashes upon request.

A Sweet Finale With An Indian Twist

The dessert, a delectable strawberry shortcake, received an Indian infusion courtesy of White House pastry chef Susie Morrison. By incorporating traditional spices like cardamom and rose, Morrison ingeniously transformed an American classic into a uniquely desi delight, satisfying every guest’s sweet tooth.

Toasting To The Occasion

The grand dinner would not be complete without a fine selection of wines. To complement the India-inspired theme, we have chosen the Patel Red Blend 2019, Stone Tower Chardonnay ‘Kristi’ 2021, and Domaine Carneros Brut Rose. The Patel Red Blend 2019, which is a harmonious combination of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, originates from Napa Valley and is priced at $75 per bottle.

A Symbol Of Strong Bilateral Ties

President Joe Biden solidified the bond between the United States and India by extending the invitation to PM Modi. State dinners are considered prestigious affairs, and this grand event stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations. Previously, President Biden had only hosted two such dinners, honoring the leaders of South Korea and France.

In conclusion, the White House’s historic vegetarian dinner showcased the power of gastronomy in diplomacy. The carefully curated menu and the inclusion of Indian-inspired flavors added a touch of uniqueness to the occasion. This extraordinary event further strengthens the alliance between the United States and India, paving the way for future collaborations and exchanges.
